Pugh was a good professor, wanted his students to succeed and has a great sense of humor. Not the best lecturer but a really good teacher to have for seminar.

Don't let freshmen and frustrated DWC students steer you clear of this PC legend. I've taken him three times now, and each class is better than the last: B+, A-, A. Muchas paperas, Nada examas. Dr. Pugh is a brilliant scholar, with a desire to see his students--moderately-- learn the essentials of philosophy in order to live a productive life. Take

Awesome and funny Guy. If you like philosophy take the class but if you don't like writing you may want to take another one papers are simple enough but they take time. He is a great teacher in my point of view he is very smart and his style is Good.

I liked Dr. Pugh. His lectures are quite boring but if you listen hard enough you may get a joke out of him. You NEED to go to class, almost all of his test material is from class notes. You do not need to do the reading but the texts are necessary for exams and papers. His hand writing is hard to understand sometimes.

I took Asian Philosophy to fulfill my philosophy core and am so glad I did. After 4 semesters of Western philosophy, it was refreshing to have new perspectives to look at. Pugh isn't too harsh on the papers, but they can be tough to write. There were a lot of terms to memorize for the midterm but the final was two take home papers.

This guy really knows his stuff, but he's a kind of boring teacher. The tests can be intimidating (you need to memorize 200 terms) but if you study, you'll do fine.

Prof. Pugh was a good guy and the class was fairly easy IF (and only if) you read the material that he assigns (which isn't TOO much) and you go to class. The exams aren't bad if you keep up to date. Many students got C-'s or worse; I got an A, along with some others who actually went to class. Would definitely take again!

Took this class as an elective. Worst mistake. All of the work is at the end of the semester so he only passed back two assignments before grades went up. The class is intolerable to go to, the papers are the worst to write. Do not take him as an elective and if you do not enjoy philosophy.

He likes to pick on students and give you random questions on tests and his class is extremely boring because he just reads from the text book.

Not a terribly difficult grader on papers, but it seemed like he went out of his way to trip students up and give extra work for his own entertainment. Not a particularly ethical man, considering he's teaching general ethics.

I hate PHL, but class was tolerable. That may have been due to the seminarians in the class who would get slightly angry when Christianity was questioned. They were entertaining. Pugh's tough to crack at times. Get him to talk about Star Trek & make philosophy jokes & the class becomes very laid back. VERY easy grader. 2-3 papers, take home final.

Lots of memorization. Lots of notes. Don't take if you aren't already interested in philosophy and subject matter. Final paper is very difficult if you don't have really high comprehension of philosophy.

somehow took really interesting subject matter and made it into a nightmare. waaaaay too much memorization (200 sanskrit terms and 5 IDs on the exam) unhelpful, incredibly unclear, and thinks he's the man. no. no. no.

Awesome guy, kinda weird, can be unclear at times. Tests are very straightforward although they require memorizing tons of terms. Can be a very difficult class unless you are really interested in the subject. You HAVE to go to class all the time. Overall, I highly recommend him.

One of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. Not only is the material intriguing, but so is Pugh's knowledge of all the different aspects of Chinese Phil., Hinduism, and Buddhism. A MUST take for those interested in Eastern thought. Not to mention he's got some pretty good (and quirky) jokes. Overall, best class I've had so far.
