He's a bit quirky and it can be difficult to understand what exactly he wants. However, he is one of the best professors I've ever had. He genuinely cares for his students, is very intelligent, and encourages you to pay attention to important literary details you might otherwise skim over. I never knew how much I loved English until his class.

The real deal! He has a passion for the class and expects quality from his students. We need more professors that expect the best. He worked with me until he wrote, "With this paper, you are writing at the level of the English profession." I have saved it for 15 years now! This meant a lot because I knew he wouldn't write it if it were not true.

Very animated and engaging with the class. He has a real passion for the literature he assigns. Do the reading, and it might be one of your favorite classes. Problem is, he's so whispery quiet, it's hard to keep consciousness.

Horrible teacher. One-sided. boring. If you need to take an English class don't take Vanderweele. He knows his stuff, but cannot teach at all. One of the worst teachers i have had in my whole life.

I thought this class was very confusing! There were too many papers and was utterly confused about what the paper should be about. I dont think I learned anything in that class. He is not very helpful and doesnt give good grades very often.

He's a great teacher and I love the class except it's really hard and not a lot of us understand any of the material... Also, he has a very soft and soothing voice, so it's very easy to fall asleep in his class as I have many times...
