Very sweet older dude. He really cares about geology and loves what he teaches. Tests are very difficult so make sure you go to every lecture and look over the notes pretty often. Overall its a very interesting class.

If you want a lecture professor who calls you out in front of over 100 students and tells you, a specific quote from him, to "shut up" then you should take him. If you actually want to pass GEO 105 then you should never take him. EVER. I REPEAT THIS IS A WARNING DO NOT TAKE HIM.

My absolute favorite teacher. He's funny and extremely smart. He has a lot of experience in the field and teaching and I adore him. He's amazing at explaining things and an overall wonderful professor to have. Highly recommend for any geology class he teaches. His lectures are easy to follow, pics are usually a little blurry, but still good enough.

Literally the coolest Geology professor, very chill older guy from California. 100% recommend taking his Strat/ Sed class. Class and Lab line up very well. Class is not mandatory but if you haven't taken upper level Geology classes before then go to class.

He's an older guy with a lot of knowledge, but he seems like he's losing it. Most of my 105 class didn't ever show up because he'd read the first slide of the lecture, then digress about something COMPLETELY unrelated for an hour and a half. Halfway through the semester threatened to drop students with over 5 absences because attendance was poor.

He doesn't take attendance but I HIGHLY recommend going because the Geology 105 course material can be overwhelming at times. I definitely would have made a better grade in this class if I went to every lecture. He at least tries to make his lectures funny which is greatly appreciated when you're 45 mins deep into a lecture on ancient fish.

Dr. Colgan is very knowledgeable. Approach him if you need help, or ask Robin, who co-teaches the class. If you attend class, study and attend Robin's review sessions, you will do just fine. Dr. Colgan and Robin are both highly intelligent, so if you are interested in expanding your intellect, TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!

Not hard material, but he tries to make it hard to make himself feel better. It is almost mind blowing that someone of his intelligence not only got a phd, but that someone at cofc actually sat down and decided he should teach young minds. Stupid class, only cares about turning you away from religion and into a darwinist. Terrible person.

Worst professor of my cofc life and I am a finance and econ double major. I took this for the science, and it is not hard Colgan just is a bad teacher. Missed about half the lectures so Robin taught it and even though she has a PHd she cannot figure out how to turn on a powerpoint. Very unclear and tough tests. Overall, they just suck.

Absolutely horrible class. Do not take this unless you are a geology major. He is way too detailed for a 100 level class and you will want to die when you take the tests. They are unnecessarily difficult and he is super rigid about not giving extra credit. Awful professor.

TAKE THIS COURSE! Teaches with Robin and what a duo they make! Class is entertaining and NO TEXTBOOK REQUIRED. Robin offers a lot of exam prep and online quizzes are extremely easy. If you study, exams are a breeze! Completely recommend!

Colgan is a genius. His class is all powerpoints and lectures. Powerpoints on oaks, so its more important to write down what Colgan says than what's on the powerpoint. Robin is the helpful one outside of class. Colgan ties in everything throughout class making it easy to understand. Study guides are harder than the test. Review session before tests

Mitch is an awesome teacher! Super funny guy who makes class really interesting. Best teacher i have had my freshmen year. I would recommend everyone take his class. Wasn't to hard if you just go to class and do the online quizzes you will get at least a high B.

AWESOME TEACHER! He is really nice, clear, funny, and helpful! Doesn't require a textbook and tests off of lecture only - goes kind of fast through the lecture, but posts all of his notes online. If you go to class and then take notes after you'll have no problem getting a good grade. Would definitely have him as a teacher again

take mitchel! he rushes through his presentations so sometimes its hard to take notes but the material isnt that hard. go to the exam reviews and youll understand everything! iclicker quizes every class take attendance but you can easily hand it to one of your friends if you dont want to go. pretty funny so its not a total waste
