Most people don't see this man for the brilliant professor he is; their loss. He is humorous, passionate, and challenges students for a reason: not have the curriculum crammed for at testing time, but to truly be taught, learned, understood, and remembered as the crucial, long-term knowledge it should be to any Earth-dweller.

Jim is such a great prof. He scared me at first but I quickly learned to love him. He is honest about everything in school and life. He loves his field and wants you to love bio too. Lectures posted, midterm and final MC and fill in blank. Study and you're fine. In lectures he does notes but also just talks to us and is very inspirational. My fav!

I thought he was going to be really nice and inspiring. He told us to never give up on our dreams but then told us that most of us wouldnt graduate. He couldnt get through a lecture without telling us how much harder he had it in school and that students these days think we can get whatever we want. Hes arrogant and my least fav prof at upei.

The material isn't hard but Kemp's teaching methods make it hard for me to study. He often has slides that are crammed with information (sometimes outdated) & doesn't give you much time to take notes. He posts notes online but are posted sometimes weeks after the material was covered. He also gets tend to get off-topic and run out of lecture time.

Jim is a very caring and loving man But, he often goes on off topic tangents that you aren't sure if they're important-sometimes will waste classes on non-course related things. Midterm was super tricky, but he gave bonus points. Final was a walk in the park. Only thing is you will not have a good idea of your final mark until you get it.

Took the class as an upper-year, and was bored out of my mind in lecture. The content isn't easy, but he makes it almost tediously easy to pass. Great prof for first years, needs to be better at posting his notes.

Very good at giving real world examples of everything he is talking about to make the material clear to students. Gives an easy midterm, practically the same each year. Wants his students to succeed, and very approachable.

It's hard to understand the structure of his lectures. Disorganized. Rambles. No textbook to follow along with. Lecture material doesn't correspond with labs.

He just goes on rant , is completely not pertinent, keep saying how things will be easy and he wants us to succeed but doesn't actually go into the material or content of the class. Can't follow his class structure either. He will reply to your emails and say he will help out and I think he means well but completely irrelevant and hard to understan

Kemp cares so much about how his students do. He is a wonderful person and wants us all to succeed; he often gives little talks about how we have to try our best and believe in ourselves. His lecturing is...good, but often very scattered and unstructured. I was often uncertain of the bigger picture. But he really cares & this makes him a good prof.

Emphasized what you needed to know and did not follow through at all when it came to the tests. Was very repetitive with information. He always explains things the same way even though it didn't work the first time. I hated that there were no tests prior to the midterm. Found his classes boring. No textbook to go by.

Did not enjoy this class at all. I attended all the classes and still found it hard to learn from him. He is all over the place, unclear with what is expected, and his questions sometimes have nothing to do with what we learned. I would not recommend it.

Stressed what will be tested. Very passionate about Bio. Doesn't make you read everything in the text only what you need to review. Overall made the class enjoyable and very fair tests.

Dr. Kemp is a wonderful professor. He does care very much about ensuring that his students succeed, and he is always clear about what you are expected to know. GO TO CLASS or you will miss a bunch of material. As to the 'creationist' comment, nothing could be further from the truth. Anyone who has actually attended his class would get that.

SAYS he doesn't want memorization, but if he asks a short answer question to explain something, no matter how well you understand it, he need to see a certain combination "specific words". Sounds like memorization to me.
