Nat is completely in love with the material he teaches, which makes it all the more interesting and engaging for you as a student. The readings/viewings (yes, you view a play and an opera) are all relevant to the class and don't take hours to complete like some literature classes do. Great class for LSC literary studies OR history requirement!!!

Absolutely incredible professor and person in general. You can tell how intelligent he is after five minutes, but he has an amazing ability to never make anyone feel dumb. Genuinely interested in everything his students have to say, and is both funny and helpful. Participation, but is never hard. Lot's of reading, but it's all very interesting.

Amazing Professor. He grades on effort, and is more concerned with students learning than giving grades. He expects a lot of class discussion. Kept students engaged. He really is passionate about what he teaches and if you are passionate about the class you are bound to do well. There was a lot of reading, but it was all interesting.

Nat is a professor that genuinely cares for his students. He wants everyone to get a good grade and tries his hardest to make sure that is possible. Nat always makes students feel as though their opinions are valuable and rarely tells anyone they are wrong. I would absolutely take a class with him again.

I had him for an Am. Lit. class and was blown away. To be honest, he should be teaching at a higher level college. He made Moby Dick interesting, which to anyone who has read the whole unabridged book is amazing. I have to say though..a hot professor? only in vermont haha. The best professor in the english department..maybe even the whole college.

I had Nat for Critical Theory and an upper level seminar. His classes were among my favorites at SMC... free of busywork and full of thoughtful discussion. He raises topics in such a manner as to make us think for ourselves, but still offers insight and encouragement. He does assign large amounts of reading but they're worth keeping up with : )

I've taken three classes with Nat, and his classes alone are enough to make me glad I picked up an English Lit major. Expect to work hard and to think; he can see BS from 10 miles away.

Nat's classes are always challenging, but he has a great mind and it's so interesting to discuss anything with him. He has a great, calm voice too, which I was not the only one to appreciate.
