PK is a wonderful and very knowledgeable person. He makes all his slides every time and doesn't use previous ones. All the courses he offers are junior/senior courses, so the material will be tough. But he is very comprehensive, also very useful outside class.

Comment:

PK taught a challenging structural dynamics class while I was a graduate student. He was outstanding. I had never really understood why differential equations were so useful and important until after his class. He's been a fantastic friend, mentor, and encourager through my time as a PhD student, and I hope that that continues throughout my career.

Comment:

PK is a cute little Indian man who can't hear very well. He also stares at the board when he teaches, so don't try asking him a question - unless you yell. Also, he doesn't ever finish examples in class because he gets confused and messes up.. his tests are easier though, if you write down everything - even if its confusing and doesn't make sense.

I had PK in the fall, and it was bad. He mumbled at the board and did not help outside of class. After the end of semester evalulations, though, I had him again in the spring. This time, he addressed all of the legitimate complaints from the evaluations, and he was SO much better!! As long as you point out to him what isn't working, he will fix it.

I have never seen any other professor correct himself five times in under a minute. Basu is a severely addled man, whose lectures rarely make any sense. Not to mention, he has extremely unrealistic requirements of what you can learn.

Seems like a very smart guy but probably not the best teacher in the world. Doing sample problems as a way of teaching can be tedious and boring. Be prepared to do a lot of the work yourself. Tests are not very hard, but need to study.
