RachAEl is definitely an asset to the SCSU Art Department. She does expect a lot from her students and is quite honest about your work. You'll never be lost about how to do something in her class because she gives very thorough explanations and is always available to answer questions. She normally gives out a writing assignment as well.

Rachel has high expectations for her students and is very clear about them. She is extremely helpful and generous with her attention. She is an excellent professor and very easy to get along with. The art department at Southern is very serious, if you are looking for a casual blowoff class do not take an art class, especially not with Rachel.

as an advanced sculpture major, i can say that rachel has been extremely helpful and a well qualified professor who seeks the best for her students. I have been challenged conceptually and have gained vast knowledge about process and materials over a short period of time thanks to her help. One of the top 10 teachers in the art department.

Rachael isn't afraid to tell you when a piece isn't going in the right direction but she makes sure to help you solve the problem. She would absolutly bend over backwards for her students and I highly suggest taking a class from her. Just don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and be prepared to put in the effort, otherwise don't waste your time.

very nice teacher. attendance is extremely important. she is a very tough grader. she likes things her way so if she suggests something, do it. sketchbook is worth a project grade so do that too. if you dont like a grade you got you can re-due a few of them for full credit. tough class with lots of work but a good class overall.

just do exactly as she says and she'll give you a C+. Go to class EVERY day and make sure all your projects are super neat and tidy. she'll rip apart every little mistake you've made and she rarely gives out compliments. If you're looking for an easy going fun art class, don't take this one.

I would make a point in class, she would say I was wrong, then she would make that same point about 5 mins after I said it. Accused half the class of plagiarism. Someone asked her if we were in trouble. She said no, the about 25 mins into her lecture she tells us we're are in trouble. Make your art for yourself and not her or anyone else. Stay away

A really fun class, but discouraging because I would work super hard and would get low grades. She is a tough grader and seems to be a perfectionist. I think she's a great person, very nice. But you have to be a really good artist if you expect a really good grade. This is NOT an easy A.

I absolutely loved this class. Yes, she has a sharp tongue during critiques, but if you want to get better at what you do sometimes you can't have such thin skin, IMO. And to second what another person said, she knows how to write A's. She gave me those quite often during critiques. Just grasp the concept and work your ass off to finish . .

if you aren't a morning person do not take this class! Very tough grader. She gives positive input when your projects are in progress, but at final critiques, bashes the stuff she said she liked in the first place! Insensitive.
