I had him for two classes. Very impressed with his experience and learned so much more than in the past. He does have high expectations but effort is noticed. Great guy!

He has a reputation for being very smart and for teaching other issues related to Spanish beyond grammar like culture, history, literature. He is really interesting and has traveled all over. I really learned a lot. I am not great at Spanish and he likes to challenge students to. But, if you try, participate, pay attention etc., you will do well.

Spoto is sort of scary at first and it is really hard to understand him a good portion of the time, but by the end of the semester you realize you did actually learn but mostly because you had to work hard to teach yourself. He expects you to pick up on little things he mentions and know tenses he talks about in passing. Good luck.

So most people say that he is impossible, do not listen. I thought I was going to drop the class and I ended up sticking it out and I'm going to get an A. If you are willing to do your work and put effort into the class you will be fine. Make sure to translate all of your homework and Have comments ready to say in class. You will learn so much.

He is very opinionated and is convinced that everyone is extremely unintelligent. He even insulted our prior education and the education that other departments have given us.

Hardest class I've ever taken, no sympathy if you're not a fluent Spanish speaker before you take his class. I failed and he failed 8 out of the 12 left standing. About 10 people dropped too. Way too hard for the level that it is. Avoid at all costs, you likely won't pass.

Dr. Spoto may seem intimidating at first, however, as long as you attend speak up in class, do the work he assigns, and go to lab you will pass. He expects you to study the verb tenses on your own time. ALWAYS come to class with something prepared to say, he will call on you w/o warning and expect an answer. Test are the same format every time.

Doesn't teach verb tenses or how to use them, expects you to know everything when coming into his class. Other than that, you learn a LOT of vocab, MUST read and do the questions for every class, (and actually show up to class!!) also has his own, subjective grading system, based on how he thinks you are doing, so a 80% might become an A-,

Would not reccomend. He goes off on tangents alot about world history. Anything he says in class could be on a quiz and he never really teaches you any verb tenses, just expects you to figure it out. He's willing to answer any questions though during class. So if you study on your own and read everything he assigns, you should be okay.

In any other class I don't think I'd like him very much. He's kinda dull and never seems very happy, but somehow I managed to do pretty well in the class. So, yeah.

His methods are a little awkward, but he doesn't force students into submission with homework. It's easy to pass his class if you do everything expected and study for exams. Most importantly, you will learn at your own pace. He doesn't penalize students for having difficulties with the language like other professors will.

Horrible teacher! I have previous knowledge of Spanish as well as family that are fluent. He doesn't explain things at all in class and goes on random tangents and repeats EVERYTHING! he puts students on the spot. Expects everyone to have prior knowledge and speak perfectly. I have helped more kids in class than he has. Avoid if possible!!!!

Very difficult professor due to his tangents in Spanish in which students are suppose to gather information from to remember for exams. Very smart man, but doesn't know how to dumb it down for learning students. Study off of your notes and read everythin he assigns and you should be good. His tests can take anywhere fro 2 to 4 hours.

I took third semester with Spoto. Spoto can be a good teacher, but you really have to be attentive. What gets annoying is repeating EVERYTHING he says (like 'cual es la fecha de hoy'). He mostly talks about culture, and expects you to do a LOT of studying on your own. He's a nice person, but I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher.

He is very diffucult. He knows what he is talking about but thinks you should know as much as he does. Has the tendency to make you feel like an idiot in front of the entire class by making comments like "this is elementry, you should know this." But put that aside i have learned a lot from him and he isn't so bad because I did take him a second ti

A really great teacher! He knew what he was talking about...I learned a lot from him..more than i ever learned in spanish...he's nice, and has a good sense of humor, but he expects you to work hard and improve. He looks like the spanish version of Christopher Walken lol...great guy tho :)
