Comment:

Somewhat interesting course. Keller really knew her stuff and the in-class discussion was engaging. Course contained WAY too much reading (4+ hrs per class), and most of which was confusing and boring. Keller frequently missed office hours and was unhelpful on essays. No exams, and her essay grading was poorly explained and inconsistent per student

Comment:

Keller is very strict and regimented, and not very forgiving. Don't miss class. Nevertheless, she is quite friendly and helpful once you sack up and approach her on a one-on-one basis. Very knowledgeable and reasonable if you can demonstrate intelligence and interest. 2 years after the class she still stops to talk if I pass her on Martin's Way.

she was horribly boring in class and asked for minute details of each reading. when i didnt know she was annoyed. her grading is insanely impossible. even after i met with her and she approved my initial draft for a huge paper she still gave me a crap grade

Comment:

I took Modern Russian History with her and I LOVED it. She has great lectures and she is extremely knowledgable. She expects alot from her students, but you learn alot from her as well. I strongly recommend taking a class with her.

Very mixed feelings about Keller. Her class was stupefyingly boring, and she was downright mean when I handed in something late-- even though I had a legitimate reason. I had to get all sorts of documentation before she relented, and she STILL took 20 points off. But since then she's been friendly, and she was good about athletic absences.

I strongly disagree with many of the comments here -- it's a terrible lie that Shoshanna Keller doesn't know her material or that she doesn't like girls! I'm a woman and I got an A on every paper I ever wrote for her. She was unflaggingly encouraging and helpful to me. If you're stupid and lazy, yes, you'll probably fail.

Strict, unwaivering, unnecessarily strict. She might as well record herself on film and just play it back to the class year after year. That's about as accessible as she is. Unreasonable grader.

The worst class I have ever taken at Hamilton. She flung assignments at us and gave us absolutely no guidance and then failed most of the class on their papers. She'll attack students in class if they don't agree with her. Avoid her if you can!

Keller had a decent understanding and ability to communicate the material -though not inspiring or engaging at all. Very, very strict, and very difficult to reach outside of class. Do NOT miss classes, do NOT miss tests. She will NOT have mercy on you.

She's my advisor, and I'm in my 3rd class with her. She's awesome, extremely knowledgeable, very helpful and accessible, and has improved my writing greatly. My idea of the ideal history professor.

Modern Middle East was possibly the worst class I have taken anywhere. Prof. Keller was entirely out of her depth and irresponsible and not a subtle or creative thinker and her grasp on the material was marginal.
