Comment:
Professor Knapp is clearly very good at what he does. The difficulty is that his own lexicon, traditional philosophic vernacular and the average Sociology student's is that they only very briefly overlap in the Reuleaux area of "a, an, the, it, and, perhaps, unfortunately". It would be nice to hear more layman's terms.

Okay I was terrified going into this class. I heard it was the hardest class in the major and that he was not a good teacher. But y'all... it really was not that bad! Do the readings, go to all of the TA reviews and rely on your study group (he requires one). Mine SAVED me! I made great friends in this class & learned so much. Do not be scared!!

honestly worst class I have ever taken and it was REQUIRED and he was the only prof that teaches it. I cried myself to sleep many times because of his class. Godspeed, my friends.

I have taken a couple classes from knap and I am so glad I have had the honor to do so. He is brilliant and I have so much respect for this man. THIS CLASS CHANGED MY LIFE! such a good marriage and family class. There is a bit of reading to do but it is interesting and he goes over it again with you in class discussions. TAKE THIS CLASS

I LOVE PROF. KNAP! best teacher I have ever had. He really changed my mind on so many things. As long as you follow his study guide and do the readings you will get an A. This class is fascinating and wonderful. I wish I could take it again and again. 10/10 would recommend.

I would say to avoid Professor Knapp at all costs, but you can't since the class is literally required and he's the only one who teaches it. He's a really smart guy but just isn't good at conveying what he knows in a way that is easy to understand for people learning the material for the first time. Very intelligent, just has zero people skills.

The class is difficult, but it's probably my favorite class I've ever taken at BYU. Seriously changed my life and relationship with others and the gospel. There's a lot of reading, but the second half you can do via audiobook since it's a novel. Also a lot of writing but most of it is graded pretty easily. It's hard but soo worth it!

He does not offer powerpoint in his 310 class. Also he is very uncomfortable to meet with during office hours. Make students feel very uncomfortable with how he gets up and walks behind you while talking and it is just us two in the office. Other than that, I feel BYU should offer another teacher for 310. He is the only professor who offers it.

Dr. Knapp is seriously the best. He knows so much & its better than 310. He is VERY passionate about the subject of families. I learned so much & was spiritually uplifted. Same set up as 310: readings (no quizzes), portfolios every week, but the 3 tests are cumulative. There is a paper as well. More theory driven. AMAZING AND WORTH IT.

Dr. Knapp is amazing! He is very passionate & knowledgeable. Theory is his thing. 3 mandatory textbooks & reading quizzes before class everyday. Sometimes hard to follow & has a certain teaching style not everyone can connect with. Hard subject to teach. Get a good study group. GO TO THE TA REVIEWS THEY SAVE LIVES/GRADES. Do your best & its fine.

He talked about how to read the bible in his classical theory in sociology class for several class periods. The time we spent on this topic was unrelated to the course material--classical theory in sociology. His lectures were tangential and unorganized. Since we spent so much time on bible reading thing, we had to cover other materials very fast.

Honestly one of my favorite classes ever. Prof. Knapp is so experienced and really knows what he's talking about. Take good notes in lecture and meet with your group often and you'll do great on the tests. It is such an important class and the lectures are fascinating. If you put in the effort to understand the concepts it will pay off.

I honestly do not know how Stan Knapp has a job. He is probably the worst professor at BYU. Openly admits to trying to fail students. Doesn't use power point. Is impossible to follow. The only reason anyone takes his class is because it is required for sociology majors, and he is the only teacher BYU offers. Nice guy, but needs to find a new career

Professor Knapp was one of my favorite professors at BYU. Yes, he takes some getting used to, yes, he can be hard to follow sometimes, but once you get into the conversation he's trying to provoke, and if you do the readings that were assigned, this class really opens your eyes and becomes memorable.

I really struggled in this class, just because I felt more confused after going to class than I did with the readings. I found Dr. Knapp to be really difficult to follow when it came to lecture, and have actively chosen to not take his classes in the future. That said, he is very kind, readings are usually interesting, and his tests aren't hard.

So, the way professor knapp teaches resonates well with a select few group of people, but for most people the way he teaches is super confusing and the concepts are really hard to grasp. He's super intelligent and knows a lot, but I think because of that he doesn't know how to explain on the student's level. If he has a good TA they can help a lot.

Knapp is a good guy, friendly, understanding, but his lectures are hard to follow, which is bad for 310 because it's already a tough subject to understand. Study groups are ESSENTIAL in this class. DO THE READING! If you do those 2 things you should do fine on the tests.

I was a little nervous to take this class because I heard horror stories about Dr. Knapp. He takes a little getting used to in just understanding how he communicates things and sometimes when he writes on the board it is unique to what he's thinking but i loved the class and the subject matter! Not tough if you put in the effort he outlines.
