Comment:
Professor Young was good in lecture and GREAT in lab. PLS147L quizzes were hard for me but professor Young knew which plants to pick up and eat to teach some lessons. I set up a tent for the first time in my life but was upset that it didn't come with the lab. Take the lab with the lecture because both will make everything more clear.

Truman is a great professor. His lectures are really engaging and you learn a lot about plant communities. Weekly homework is not too bad. The first midterm kinda of hits you out of nowhere though. I didn't know what to expect and studied all of the key concepts from lecture come to find he asked specific questions that were glossed over once.

Fun class, fun professor. There is weekly hw, but it's not terrible. He gave you all the reading material. Cool guest lectures.

Tests are cumulative so be prepared. He gives a clear layout of what he expects you to know from each lecture so do your notes on the layout and then study that and you'll do fine. There's weekly homework based off of readings but it isnt too time consuming. Overall a pretty easy class.

Two midterms and a final, with weekly (they turn out to be more like bi-weekly) homework assignments. Don't buy the book, he gives you the necessary readings on smartsite. Overall this was a fun class and I learned a ton about plants (and about how people destroyed them). The grading takes forever but it's graded generously.

sigh. i really liked this class bc truman is very engaging and makes the material fun. however his powerpoints are a bit disorganized and not all the info you need to know are on them. go to class and take good notes.

Probably one of my favorite lecturers at Davis as he is very passionate and clear about the information he presents. Exams don't make up much of your grade but were easy. Plant quizzes are crucial for passing so keep up with them weekly. Go on plant walks and use the online quizzes for practice. That's all you need to do to get a good grade.

he's unorganized in lecture, can't really understand him, and doesn't post lectures online. Majority of grade is on plant quizzes study online quizzes and you'll be fine. however the course is mainly remembering a plants name doesn't teach you much about it's properties and what not

An extremely informative and knowledgeable teacher. I would take any class he taught. The midterms are straightforward with material all covered in class. The TAs for this class are also EXTREMELY nice and helpful. I love this class and teacher!!

Prof. Young is one of the coolest teachers ever. He really makes learning fun and you enjoy going to lecture. The memorization was a little tricky, but manageable. He's really passionate about plants, and it shows. Definitely a class worth taking and a teacher worth having.

I wish ENH 6 had more lectures, because Truman's lively presentations engross me every time. Stay on top of your plant IDs with weekly studying prior to your quiz and this class is plenty easy. I wish I could keep going on lab walks to learn plants!

The plant id-ing requires alot of studying throughout the year, and you can't just study before the final. The lecture test is short; the real grade comes from the IDs. I ended up doing badly on some of the plant quizes, but the online practice quizs saved me.

His lectures are boring. He is very knowledgeable about the subject and likes it alot but its very boring. The lab tests and finals make up for most of the grading anyways. His lecture tests are hard because he leaves no study guide. Every boring man.

Dr. Young is very knowledgeable in Restoration Ecology. He is a crazy kind of lecturer and not always on time, but the information he presents is straight from the field. ENH 160 is a good class even if resto ecology isn't your primary interest.
