Honestly, just show up to class and do the homework and you'll be fine. Exams and quizzes are wayyy easier than the homework. He also gives practice materials which are basically the exact quiz/exam. Not that good at explaining mistakes, but that's where the math lab helps.

Comment:

I took Smith for Math113 and I would say that I would never again take him for any reason ever. He doesn't really teach, his teaching is going through a problem and when he goes through it he will say "we know this is this so lets move on". The only problem is we don't know what it is otherwise we wouldn't be in your class. Overall pretty terrible.

I had been to class for 3 lectures so far, and it is honestly pointless. He does not give notes to take. He points at equations in the book and expects you to learn them. I could honestly teach the material to myself better than he can. Only take trigonmetry with him if you want to put in a lot of work to learn material outside of class.

Due to the way the course was presented (almost entirely online) I had almost no contact with Prof Smith. Class was easy, homework was graded on completion but tests were hard (no calculator). Thankfully, homework was weighted more than exams so it all worked out. Also, we only met every other week for class and were finished with the course by Nov

If I could take this class in person I would have. The online option was somewhat difficult as the concepts sometimes did not come across as clear as they would have in person. For example, exponents were written differently on the test than online which threw me off. Prof. Smith wants his students to succeed! Math lab is key!!

I had to take this class because they said it would help me with 109.. It did the exact opposite. At first, the class was extremely easy and then it was like a bomb. A test every other week, he doesn't explain very well. iClicker questions matter so you have to show up. Test out of the class if you can.

Horrible! Nice guy, just can't teach. Doesn't face the class, constantly messes up, and directions are never clear. Meeting with him to better understand a testetc. will be of no help. He'll ask you if you have a tutor (which I did), then say, "well, you should just know it". Asked him if I should drop the class, response: "idk ask your advisor"..

Do not take Smith. He is an awful teacher. Cannot explain anything to save his life. The tests don't match the assignments at all. I learned more from the homework than I did from his "teaching". He makes a ton of mistakes in class and has even googled some questions because he can't figure them out.

Essentially Prof. Smith was the worst prof I've ever had. It's quite possible I could learn more from a rock. He doesn't explain things well at all. He constantly messes up writing problems down on the board and constantly gets answers wrong. He doesn't interact with the class, he just faces the white board and mumbles. He's not specific on exams.

First off, Math 20 is a joke for a class, so I would seriously try to test out of it. Secondly, you learn more from the online assignments than Alex. He doesn't know your name, and if you ask for help there's a 5050 chance that he'll have no idea how to help you.

This is one of the worst professors I have ever had! He has taught me nothing! I learned more at my high school. My math class is basically a social hour... I accomplish more by going to the tutor center.

Comment:

Professor Smith is a nice guy, however his teaching is extremely confusing. The guy will attempt to demonstrate a problem, do it wrong, and then say, "Oh well, it was supposed to work out right." I did not enjoy explaining to him how to FOIL. Take him if you already know how to do math. If math is not you're forte, I would avoid Prof. Smith.
