The lecture can be a bit boring, but she's really nice and very approachable if you need help. Tests aren't the easiest thing every, but as long as you study the lecture/reading you should do fine. The essay is easy, and the pop-quizzes as well. I got an A- so it's not impossible to get a good grade. Overall I would recommend her class.

thought this class would be interesting, but it was SO boring. very focused on policies, not actual info about gangs. exams are very heavily based on the readings, and theres a group project.

She is an insightful and helpful professor but the subject is a little dull. Not too difficult of a class with a decent amount of reading and random weekly quizzes after the 2nd week of the quarter, so attendance is mandatory per say. An enjoyable class.

Took for juvenile delinquency course. Class is loaded with difficult readings with hard to juggle statistical information and variety of programs. The exams were extremely difficultly worded and tricky (Many students did horrible). This course gave me my first 'B' @ UCI. I'm a 3.9+ Student. Trust me - the tests are ridiculously tricky.

Class was excellent. Must take notes/PP slides not available to class. Necessary to read text. TA'S were very helpful (Analicia and Darin). Prof. Maxson very approachable and helpful to me with suggestions about CRM field in general. I am a much older student in college for first time (49 years old) so I need Professors I feel comfortable with.

The class is a little boring; however, the professor is helpful if you need help with understanding the materials. The only problem, exams are not intelligently designed and are created by her TA, Julie. Even if you know the materials, the questions are meant to be unreasonably tricky. To support my argument, everybody did so badly on midterm that

By far the most difficult class I've had at UCI. The TA makes up the exams which were retardedly tricky and reading intensive. Group projects are graded easier than the term papers, but you get the choice of doing either or. I don't recommend this class at all.

I took Professor Maxson for Juv Delinq and Gangs. GO TO LECTURE! She does not post lecture slides and has POP quizes almost every other lecture meeting! Midterm and Final are not hard if you do the reading (a lot of reading for Gangs class). Overall, I enjoy her classes! "MMMMMM HMMMMM"

The assignments weren't too difficult, a 3 pg paper and a group project were required. What she expects to be addressed in each is clearly defined. There are random, unannounced quizes given in some class lectures, so attendance is important. She is fair in her grading and much more knowledgeable about gangs than juvenile delinquency.

I didn' think a class on gangs could be so boring. No class discussion. It's only her talking and talking and then some more talking with a very monotonous voice. Her exams are really hard. I read every word of the book but still wasn't able to get at least a B on her exams. She has pop quizzes and an easy project which will save your grade in the e

She is very monotonous and there is a ridiculous amount of reading for one class... not to mention the reading is very dry, I thought taking a class on gangs was going to be cool but it ended up being my hardest class!!! Honestly, I would not recommend taking this teacher

Fascinating topic. She clearly is knowledgable about the subject and tests are pretty straightforward. Pop quizzes are so easy if you do the reading and take notes in class. She has a monotone voice, which is hard to deal with at 9am. All in all, I loved the class and she is a good professor.

Interesting class. We got to visit juvenile hall. She may not the best lecturer in the world but i never fell asleep i her class. Tests aren't too shabby but still a little tricky. Go to class and take the quizzes they are easy points.
