Comment:
His lectures leave a lot to be desired and his grading policies are atrocious. His homeworks are thoroughly unreasonable and he's bad at answering questions via email.

A smart guy but not the best teacher. He is very particular about doing everything in his quirky ways and does not respond to feedback well. He is also sloppy- constantly late, forgetting about when class ends, making mistakes, getting off track, and forgetting about emails after he looks at them. HW is hard, tests are easier but he grades strict

Intro to Computer Science Theory with him was tough. He really wants you to learn the material so the weekly homework is quite challenging. If you are allergic to mathematical proofs, avoid him. Otherwise, you'll learn a lot. Exams are 10 times easier than homework. As long as you do the homework you'll be fine.

One of the best professors I have ever taken. Very passionate about the topic at hand, which makes class great. He is a tough grader, and class will not be easy, but you will learn a TON. Textbook is a must. Take him if you want to truly understand the course. Puts students first and office hours are very helpful. 9.5/10

Excellent professor. Homework every week that's fairly difficult at times. Tests are easy if you pay attention in class and do the homework.

Extremely sensitive and gets personal really quick, even at someone who always shows interest in class. Spends useless lecture hours writing confusing stuff on the board that only he could understand (and mostly other people who like this weird course). Tests were easy but had only a few questions that weight too much; average on homework: 50%

"Nice" guy, but 1 of the worst teachers I've ever had. Makes a lot of mistakes and uses the word "maybe" while defining simple stuff like he hasn't thought of how to lecture. "Actually, before we do that...", "we should do this instead..." Etc happen throughout the class. He once took an entire hour TRYING to prove a problem, and that was 3rd week

Sometimes he can be very nitpicky in the grading, but overall the exams were very easy. He really needs to work on his pacing, we spent a lot of time going over homework/review stuff and it felt like right when we started getting to new stuff class would end

Had him for the honors section of CS Theory. Very heavy workload that adequately prepared me for the tests and for life as a theoretician. Moves quickly and at a high level, so he's great if you're already kind of knowledgeable or just very quick. Not an easy A, but an extremely rewarding one.

Homan is a nice guy, and I'm sure very brilliant, but he is a terrible teacher. He does not explain the material well at all and struggles to answers questions at a level students can understand.

Very tough grader, doesn't offer help for assignments prior to their due dates, and blew me off when seeking help prior to final. Good Lecturer, but the bad outweigh the good in his case

Had him for Cryptography. He makes class really enjoyable and is really helpful. For Cryptography, the homeworks require a LOT of time and effort, but are fairly graded, and other than the midterm and final, they're all you have to do in the class. The two exams were both a lot easier than I expected, and also graded fairly.

I had Professor Homan for my first CS class and it was quite a challenge. However, that is what made the class great. He's always willing to help and it is possible to get an A if you do your work. The grading was weighted 60% towards the exams, which I thought was a bit much and the grading was a little slow, but I definitely recommend his class.

He likes to challenge his students, which results in harder tests and labs. However he is very accessible and helpful in class and outside, and seems to genuinely care that his students learn. Take him if you want to work hard and learn a ton.
