encourages students in their strengths and ones intellectual relationship to art/music. fairly philosophical content. can get away with not doing the readings but you're missing out. music as cultural phenomenon. very accessible prof. very passionate. goes on tangents but grounds it in references to build on past topics.

Comment:

Dr. Bernstein is very energized by experimental music and tries his hardest to inspire his students. He is my advisor an taught a portion of one of my music classes. He is extremely knowledgable in his field, but says "um" in between most words. That was a deal-breaker for me, but I admit that that is shallow. He's super nice!

Dr. Bernstein knows his stuff very well, and is an inspired musicologist. His lectures can get a little too analytical, though.
