Comment:

He likes to talk, a lot, but it's worth it. He helps you understand if you don't and gives great feedback on the work he gives. There are two quizzes I took and both were open book- it's an easy A. If you respect him, he'll respect you. He's hilarious. I would most definitely take him again if I needed any more theatre classes.

Comment:

I absolutely loved Derek's class. I had him for the voice section of Voice and Movement and he made that class. I learned so much in a short amount of time and use the IPA techniques after taking his class. He gives amazing feedback and isn't there to hurt your feelings but to help make you better. Derek cracks jokes and makes every class fun.

Comment:

Gagnier is so talented with everything he does. He gets the lessons across in very easy and memorable ways, and he makes you laugh and smile while doing so. His tests on IPA are open note, chapter summaries are simple. As a theater major, I hope to have him again sometime soon.

God bless Derek Gagnier. He is hilarious, and INCREDIBLY knowledgable about voice and IPA. He also teaches Acting I, so if you're a theatre major you'll have the pleasure of working with him then too. He's one of the few professors that actually still performs, which is super cool. You get to lie down every class, whoop whoop. Don't forget to read!

Dr. Gagnier is the best professor I've had and he makes me want to come to class every day!! Very helpful and hilarious. Really cares about his students and loves sarcasm. Tests aren't bad just read the small assignments and attend class and be an active student. Really not hard in his class at all.

Dr. Gagnier is awesome! He tells all these dumb jokes and puns which are kinda hilarious. No memorization, just stand in front of the class with your script and do your thing. The papers and quizzes are ridiculously easy. He does his best to help you improve on your performances. Best gen ed class I took at App so far.

I like him as a person, but as a non-theater person this class was hard for me. I just don't like this type of thing, though. He's a funny teacher, and tries his hardest to engage everyone. Maybe a little tough on grading when considering that not everyone is a theater major. No memorization at all for this class! one quiz thats easy, easy papers

While he is very friendly and always cracking jokes, his class was not challenging at all. I just didn't learn anything in it. It was very high school level and I came to college to really learn. I appreciate how much he cares though, and he does know his stuff. But I definitely have had better theatre teachers.

great guy, knows what he s talking about and encourages us to work harder. pushes us to meet our limits and personal acting goals, and really cares about his students. because of him I feel like I am ready for the next step after graduation. the work load is not hard if you are a student looking to hone in on your acting skills.

Derek's awesome; he'll make you work, but if you're serious about acting or just serious about wanting to improve your acting skills, his classes are really worth your while. there was a noticeable change in my audition technique from the beginning of the semester with him. Great professor.

Without a doubt the reason I think I can make it in acting. He helped me hone my craft and you can tell he cares about his students and is willing to take for them. If the opportunity arises take this class. It's not always easy, but the end result is worth it.

Derek's a great guy. He's really funny and approachable. Just make sure you attend class because he changes the schedule a lot. Chapter reviews are easy, and word of warning for performance assignments: If you can't remember, there's more than likely a written part.
