Comment:

Great math professor. Clearly cares about his students and their understanding of the material. My only complaint was that at times, if something was misunderstood, a different method of explaining the problem was not always available. Overall though, Professor Wong is by far my recommended math instructor.

Mr. Wong is a great teacher, heavy accent so you really have to pay attention but he's very forgiving if you miss an assignment.

He's very nice, and understanding. He does explain a lot, but when it comes to the test he adds problems that he never explain or never went through in class. In overall, he does teach you new stuff and easily!

He explains a problem by one way only, he do not explore other options. He gets the problems by the way he only knows and do not goes over the homework problems that you may have. I had to teach my self with the textbook and tutoring center. I don't recommend his only one way of teaching.

He is a great professor. Goes over problems well enough so you can understand. tests and homework on every chapter which was very helpful for me. he let us drop the lowest test score and even gave extra tests to boost up our grade. if you mantain a C and get an A on the final, your final grade will be an A!

He is the best Professor! He is very nice and easy going person, the test he gives out are not too hard. If you study and do all your homework, you will get an A. I wish he could teach Math 96, so I could take his class again. :( love him very much!

Do not recommend taking Stats with him. Lectures are not very organized, and he isn't thorough with his coverage of the material. You WILL have to read the entire book to understand the material. His tests don't reflect the study guide, so use problems in the book as reference instead. Tests are very difficult even if he says they're easy.

I took the 8 wk course & it was bittersweet. Derek teaches how to do problems (w/ & w/o a calculator) & it got very confusing at times. It took me about 6 weeks to decipher some of the terms he would say. He said there would be "no surprises" on the final & yet there were problems on it we hadnt learned yet. Hes nice but I dont care 4 his teaching

I had Prof Wong for an 8 week stats class. Its alot of material in a short time, but he realizes this and is flexible. So flexible he gives you enough rope to hang yourself. Do the homework before its due, cause it'll be on the test. And, if he says an assignment or test will be a "piece of cake", best believe not! I'd take him again.

Took his 8 week accelerated course.Best way to do stats.First 2 tests we were allowed one page of notes final 2 tests and final exam were completely open book.Hes laid back and friendly.Only complaint is he put me down for a B when every HW and test i got back was graded near 100%.He stands by it but i scratch my head wondering how that worked out.

+'s: Allows you to drop 1 out of 3 quizes, all quizes and tests are open note (most are open book too), easy homework points, easy-going and friendly. -'s: Hard to understand at times, (he's almost too smart for the class), tests are LONG and tend to be more complicated than he lets on in class. Funny guy, but hard class. I had hard time with stats. Its not easy, but if you do all the homework and finish the examples he gives you to take home you'll do fine. I recommend getting as much help as you can at the tutoring center, or his office hours !!!

Prof. Wong only knows one way to present material, and if you cannot understand his way he moves on without you. Check every single thing he grades for missed points - he will dock you points without reason but when you call him out on it he usually gives them back. I only recommend this prof. if you have previous experience with statistics.

He is thoughtful in his teaching method, thorough, well-prepared, organized, and sincere in his wanting you to understand the lessons and concepts. This guy is extremely difficult to understand, not because of his accent but his teaching style. His test are extremly long and not enough time. No one in my class was able to finish all problems in the final. I was confused 50% of time & with a tutor. Take Wheelock if you can - she's amazing. However, get a tutor - you will need one !!!!

Took this class 3 times to pass - 3 different teachers, 3 different styles. Wong focuses on concept, which can be abstract but helpful to those who appreciate the "why" behind the lesson and also those who like visual aid. He is not overtly interactive but never turns away a question. Nice guy, generous grader. Whoever the teacher, get a tutor!!!

I am very so-so on this guy. He was hard to understand, but I did manage to get an A - through a lot of work with the book, and thanks to a gracious curve. I don't know what the other stats teachers are like at City, but I wouldn't overwhelmingly reccomend Wong.
