This professor is super laid back and passionate about his job. Even when you make a piece that is not so nice, he will reassure you that everything will be ok! One simple test, first half of sem is hand building and second half is wheel work. I recommend 100%!

i was nervous going in but he is so nice if your pieces are somewhat wonky he suggest going with it or if its something that needs to be graded for a specific thing then he suggests trying again. really nice gives so many chances to grade things and gives us a handout and say this is the midterm ok cool cool and yeah so nice

This was a fabulous class. I learned a lot that I can use outside of class. Professor Phillips is a wealth of information, clearly demonstrates techniques, and gives gentle yet useful feedback. The studio is fantastic, everything you need and want is available.

Frank Phillips is without a doubt a nice and knowledgeable teacher but extracting information from him is harder than it should be. Phillips spends 60% of the time working on his personal projects instead of walking around the room offering advice as he should. And who is responsible for the floating dust in the classroom air? The cleaning crew?

Very fun ceramics class, he's not super specific or provides incredible lectures, but he creates a very lax learning environment. Overall, he's a really nice guy.

GREAT PROFESSOR!!! The class is very fun and you will learn how to work with clay and create wonderfully glazed pieces! What I would recommend is for you to video tape his demos, and then watch them as you do your pieces, b/c it's hard to remember the steps. Mastering the wheel was tricky on the 2nd half of the semester. Very inexpensive class.

Frank is a lovely guy, who is helpful when you need him. He's fair-minded and focused. This class was very easy-going and you can work at your own pace, i.e. produce many more pieces than required. I would definitely recommend him.

Encourages students to be creative and does not offer much assistance. This can be bad if you are struggling because its hard to get his attention. He usually works on his own projects during class instead of walking around and observing students. 1 fairly easy mid-term exam of ceramic technical terms. Overall ok professor.

Excellent ceramacist. More interested in the art and creative expression of clay than the craft. Gives good technical information, but also encourages you to explore and expand your artistry. Provides books and photos of examples and pushes you to try and reach your limits. An inspirational teacher, as well as very nice.
