Comment:

Professor Toris, as a person, is very kind and does her best to make the class a bit more interesting but she can get off-topic, so it's best to just read the book. Her tests are incredibly hard and count for a huge percent of your grade, but she gives extra credit points when you get her vocal questions right. Make sure you participate.

Awful. Her tests consist of all of the types of questions (such as multiple choice, true false, essay, fill in the blank). There's trick questions and you leave the room feeling stupid after you're done. She tends to ramble, and claims that the things on the test were things she said in class but you tend to miss most of it due to odd discussions.

I was really excited for Environmental Psychology but was pretty let down. Toris is pretty tough. She's not very clear on what's going to be on the tests... and 13 of the tests are fill in the blank. With no word bank. VERY difficult to study for!

10 quizzes that are 10 pts each ... She drops the lowest one. One paper . A midterm and final . There's not much written hw , there will be random easy assignments. She does offer extra credit when she can bc her class is so very difficult. The midterm and final is mc, fill in the blanks, tf, and essay . A lot of reading is required .

TOUGH. However, as long as you read the book, take notes, and STUDY, you should be fine. Plus, there are plenty of extra credit opportunities. You better like group projects, because it's a huge part of your grade!

Dr. Toris is a great person! and a very good teacher. Unfortunately she has a lot of great things to talk about with her students and NOT enough time! She is a great story teller and listener. Her tests ARE hard. She will answer ANY question you may have , help you much as you need and provides a ton of XTRA credit opportunities. hard but worth it

RUN AWAY! Carol Toris seems like a very interesting person to get to know outside of the classroom, shes super whacky. However, inside the classroom she is confusing and her tests are ridiculous. 1st test grades avg between 33-83 with no curve and close to the same on the second test. Worst class I have taken at CofC. Be prepared to read A LOT!

Her lectures are kind of confusing, you'll understand more if you read the book (long chapters) her tests are long and have way to much information on them, more than half the class failed the first test. She is very nice though.

RUN AWAY!!! The most dreadful teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Her material is WAY TO HARD. Social psych should be fun...instead I had to slave away in order to pull of a C. I ignored her bad ratings and took her anyway, I regret it so much. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT TAKE TORIS.

toris is VERY hard and VERY boring. her quirkiness is funny.. i guess but it seems like she teaches nothing in class and the test material comes out of nowhere. i'd slave over the book and study for hours but her fill in the blank and multiple choice are just slightly impossible. social psych is very interesting but i suggest taking someone else

DO NOT TAKE HER! she is very nice, and seemingly a great professor. You go over bits of readings in class...however the tests are unremarkably hard. she grades on spelling and they are impossible. I am an A student and struggled to get a C. she does not curve tests and i studied for hours only to recieve a 39%. Do.not.take.this.class.

Took her for nonverbal communication. Her exams were graded on spelling, not accuracy. She didn't teach a large portion of the class, due to time but still included it on the final exam. She wouldn't curve the exams, despite the majority of people receiving D's. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

I felt like I was watching Harry Potter all over again when I took Prof. Toris due to her uncanny Hagrid resemblance! I loved it! She was quite helpful when it came to her office hours. Recommended for TRUE HP fans all over! :D

I made the major mistake of taking her Social AND Language class this semester. Got A's in all my other classes - broke down because I thought I was going to fail just these two. What's the common denominator here? Anyone who says to take her class is a masochist. You will learn just as much with 1/25 the pain with another teacher. Seriously, run.

I took psychology of language with her. The class was very interesting and the quizzes were ok, but the midterm was unreasonable. I am usually an A/B+ student and I actually failed her test. I couldn't believe it. She gave back the test she looked upset. She said that most of the students didn't do well and she didn't know why.

Took her for advanced social psych lab, the 3 credit lab course.. LOVED it. Learned so much about APA, graded papers terribly hard becuz wanted you to learn material well. Experiments were tedious, but easy. Dr. T was extremely helpful, fair, and bought us pizza. Learned so much, papers will be used as a writing sample for grad school. Take her.
