Comment:
Dr. Pettit is a giant in the in the cancer research world and it has been truly a privilege to have learned from him. That being said he's getting up in years so he can be hard to hear so the TA is really who does most of the work. Dr. Pettit's John Tomlin is seriously the best TA I've ever had to say the least I highly recommend this class.

Comment:
Dr. Pettit is very kind and tells a lot of stories about the history of techniques and chemistry. He actually shows up to lab and interacts with everybody. You can tell he truly LOVES chem, and discusses it's medical applications a lot. That said, it's really the TA you have that will make or break your lab experience. JOHN TOMLIN 4 LYFE.

He truly seems like he means well, but has a VERY old style of teaching that involves not drawing anything and talking at you like that will be enough. He doesn't even look at the ppts until he presents them, and even with a mic is INCOMPREHENSIBLE. Been self teaching all semester. WORST prof I've ever had, take ANYONE else!

PLEASE to save your entire semester DO NOT take this guy. He doesn't explain any thing, has a seating chart, and the average grade for the last test was failing. The worst professor I've ever had at ASU.

He's a nice guy, he knows his stuff, and he always tries to get people interested with applications/stories/etc. but, seriously, run while you still can. Take Gould. If you can't switch, try to sit on the edge toward the middle front, that's where he normally lectures. He has a microphone, yet he's still impossible to hear. I had to teach myself.

I am a "A" student (biochem) This guy is the most ridiculous illustration of ASU's education quality... I am sitting in his class thinking- "why am i spending thousands of dollars to listen to a guy whisper nonsense?"... This guy is the worst teacher i have ever seen!! This is Ochem- he has not picked up a marker! DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!

He is the only professor I've had who came to the lab and personally helped people. He talks about a lot of interesting applications of organic chemistry too.
