What a fun professor! He seems happy to help students, and gives great lectures with eccentric logic-y jokes scattered throughout. Although I'm not usually good at maths, I did well in his class. He's especially helpful in office hours.

This man is a genius when it comes to logic and reasoning. Took him for reasoning and plan to take philosophy of language next. He is the Mad Hatter. In a brilliant, make you think kind of way. Be prepared to learn how to recognize fallacies in reasoning, logic, and argumentation.

I'm honestly not sure how his ratings aren't lower. Had no idea what he was teaching about and made class miserable. DO NOT TAKE CLASS.

AVOID Terrible lecturer, though he tries to be funny. I've taught my self this whole dreaded course after buying an outside textbook on Amazon and youtube channels. I suggest you do the same, and try not to let his lectures confuse you, he's just unorganized and is presenting things without explaining the background logical theory.

Avoid this class if you value your GPA! Grading methodology - completely capricious. He expects you to construct a well-reasoned argument according to his VERY NARROW standards, and honestly, he kind of takes the fun out of writing. It becomes a highly regulated process, the steps of which you MUST follow, or else he dings your grade. Silly class.

His reasoning class should NOT be advertised for prelaw people who haven't taken philosophy- RUN from it like the plague if this is your case . It is an utter waste of time w a lot of busy work (won't really help for the LSAT). ALSO he is super unhelpful, can be rude, and UNORGANIZED! I did well in the class but I was lucky I had a great TA.

Funny and interesting teacher. Very strict on his written assignments, tricky exams. After a misunderstanding of my interest in the course in office hours he acted very unprofessional throughout the semester by dismissing any of my questions with often disparaging remarks. Do NOT get somehow get on his bad side, because you will likely stay there.

man this guy... the class is extremely easy, but wow. he never knows what he's going to lecture on until ten minutes INTO the class. the man is so unprepared and frazzled all the time. it's as if he just sleeps in all day. (the class was at 2pm mind you.) have fun watching him scratch his head and stare up at the ceiling continuously lol

Took Reasoning with him. The class is still being formulated so it was somewhat messy. Very chill professor. When you need help, he is INSANELY helpful. It's easy to make good grades with him

Probably the best professor ever. He's hilarious, and he has a ton of useful tools and examples on his website. Lectures can be a little slow and boring, and the class is really easy. But Dr. Ray rules.

I think I lucked out with him teaching this class. I made a 99, and I'm below-average in that class! People were making above 100s lol. He was so generous with grading. I recommend going to TA office hours weekly. That's how I, a struggling student, was able to ace this class. Other people had no problem though.

I took Metaphysics instead of Intro because of the (poor) way Ray teaches that class versus this one. He tries to give pretty good explanations and examples of concepts. It's difficult to get an A (does depend on the TA, however) because almost your entire grade rides on three (fairly well-written) essays. Gained some new insights on how to think.

Although this class is very hard to get an A in, Dr. Ray is absolutely hilarious, easily one of the funniest professors at UF. His lectures are most always really interesting, though sometimes the material gets a bit convuluted. Dr. Ray gets a bad rep because students are bitter about their grades, but overall, he's not that bad.

Perhaps not my favorite class, simply because my heart isn't really into philosophy, but honestly I love this professor. He's absolutely hilarious and intriguing. If you take this class I suggest you go to his office hours and get to know him -- really cool , intelligent guy!

The subject material covered by this class is by no means difficult or incomprehensible--only professor Ray is. The concepts are interesting in and of themselves, but even the most engaging subject matter can become boring when taught by an arrogant buffoon. His grading is inconsistent and lacks the kind of consideration he expects from students.

Dr Ray doesn't care much for grading so you pretty much have no idea what to expect as far as that goes for the entire semester. That said the classes can be quite interesting and he definitely wants to know his student's thoughts on the subject matter.

His quirkiness is the only think that keep me awake in the class. I didn't like the class, but I wasn't intrigued in the subject. If you memorized all the arguments you will be fine. Grading can be bias because it is done by TAs. I had Shawn, he was a hard grader but good in discussion. The test are fair, nothing tricky. Just a pain to study for.

Horrible teacher. I entered the class with a higher than average interest in Philosophy and left confused and uninterested. Ray likes to hear himself talk, and whether or not the talk is coherent is up to his whim. I am sure the class would have been great to outstanding...with someone else. Terrible experience but at least I survived with a B+.

Professor Ray's an interesting man. I can certainly see how some would find his lectures hard to follow, as he often makes topics far more complicated than they need to be. But the class remains fairly easy, with 2 papers (that I suppose depend on your TA) and 2 exams determining your grade. Attendance is hugely mandatory, but there is no textbook.
