Heidi can sometimes go on questionable tangents in class, but I think her passion about her subject really rubs off in class. She makes an effort to really help students learn, and she seems like a pretty cool person outside of class too. Love her cats!

Professor White is incredibly caring and really wants you to do well in her class so put in the work! Readings and assignments are philosophy-based and her lectures are thought-provoking and interesting. Make an effort to engage with her outside of class and she'll really help you out with assignments and general life advice.

I had Heidi White for both my SF1 and SF2 Classes and she's an absolute sweetheart, very encouraging. Make sure you take her for both SFs because she references books from the prev sem. 2-3 Essays per sem, 1 midterm and 1 final. If you take (extensive) notes in class you'll be fine. Harsh grader but go to office hours and listen to what she wants.

She was one of my favorite professors last semester! She is a tough grader and expects a ton of effort to be put in her class, but it's for a reason. She is incredibly intelligent and definitely cares about her students more than any other professor I've encountered. Lots of readings to do but they're interesting. Exams are ok

If you enjoy philosophy you'll love Prof White! She is very passionate and knowledgeable, and her lectures feel genuine. You have to do the readings and pay attention, but I definitely learned a lot from her. If you put in the work, you can get an A easily (I just didn't turn everything in). Take her class with an eager mind and you'll love it!

Do not take her. Her lectures are very vague and are really hard to follow. Her form of paper are strange and you have to strictly follow her format to get a fair grade. Gives study guide before test but only work for essay not short answers. Her short answer questions are too detailed.

Heidi White is a trip!! Her lectures are generally pretty funny and she likes to tie in her own life. She is a harsh grader but is usually right about what she says. Course is reading heavy and you must have the correct edition of each book. Would definitely take her again

Prof. White is undeniably brilliant and a great lecturer, but her class is harder than all other SF classes. She has high standards, so you have to work for a good grade. That being said, you'll probably get the best education for your money - her lectures are both entertaining and informative, so you have fun and learn a LOT.

Pretty good prof. She is a little argumentative but not in a bad way. She wants to push you to think and back up what you say, which I dont mind. Smart and enthusiastic. A moderate amount of work.

Heidi White... honestly one of the best professors I've ever had at NYU. She's cool as hell and super philisophic, she doesn't grade too hard and she's def willing to bump your grade.

You must read for the class. She cold calls people. She has a great personality and connects the text back to her own life but she is a really harsh grader. Her exams are also very specific, so you basically have to study everything she said in class.

Prof White is definitely passionate about what she teaches, especially about Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, but she can be unorganized. Always wants to steer the discussion to her perspectives/opinions. She makes you get all the books and they must be the ISBN she says. There's a lot of books you need to get, so it's very annoying. She's nice tho

Do not take White. She is unorganized, rambly, and frankly not very intelligent. She has made no lasting impact on me or my understanding of philosophy, and is very surface level- did not learn anything that I couldn't have figured out on my own. That being said, she is funny and energetic- but this does not at all make up for her dismal teaching.

I personally thought that she was very kind and reasonable, the people that had the most issues in my class were the ones who were passionate about philosophy and would try to openly dispute with her interpretations if they disagreed with them. Since I wasn't passionate about SF, I just absorbed everything she said and got an easy A.

Heidi is really nice and is clearly very passionate about philosophy. If you're not into philosophy, don't take this class. She does lecture most of the time, but does go on tangents usually while lecturing. No prompts for the 2 papers which was stressful but manageable.

most bizarre grading system i've ever heard of. makes you do group presentations but then spends the whole presentation speaking over you. is super intelligent but has a tendency to ramble and then run out of time. Also, canceled class 5 times and had two mandatory field trips totally unrelated to the material in class

I'm honestly surprised by the great reviews heidi has. She's very condescending and disorganized. She's canceled class three times now, so we're way behind other classes, and when we do have class she goes on tangents until we run out of time, then tries to cram the important stuff in as everyone is leaving the room

Heidi White is an amazing person!!! She is very passionate about philosophy which definitely comes across in her discussions. There are right answers so she tries to guide the class that way but when she's not low on time she's very open to outside opinions and discussing them. Do the readings! And write down everything she says.

Lots of reading, many papers, long midterm and final. You might get buried in work, you might not get an A+, you might get a little aggravated with prof. White sometimes but YOU WILL LEARN. Inspiring. Her teachings find their way into my daily life. Incredibly MEANINGFUL class. For those who love to learn-- must take.

Heidi is a great choice for SFI. If you stay caught up with the material, pay attention in class, and take good notes, you'll get an A. Midterm and final are not difficult if you do these things, no tricks, just a straightforward test of knowledge. Heidi is helpful, cares for the subject, and tells interesting stories in class. Go to office hours!
