Comment:
I honestly thought I would fail this course. You can tell Henry love teaching and care about his students, but it's very difficult to follow along during lectures. The midterms were really hard and the types of questions were about things we haven't really gone over in class.

Henry just reads out his notes and can go off on tangents. I think he cares about his students but is disorganized and ineffective at communicating information. I was left feeling completely lost without a textbook. The first midterm was way too difficult and unfair and the average was 57%, but the 2nd was easy to make up for it. Avoid if possible

Henry is a very nice and eccentric man. However, he is very unorganized and hard to follow. People either did really well or really bad on exams. TAs in this course saved us. If you wanna do well, attend office hours. They were incredible and very accessible outside of class.

Comment:
Henry is very unorganized and his lectures were hard to follow. He likes to work from abstract concepts to more concrete rules, but often we never got past the abstract part - frustrating. Exams are hit or miss. He is a very wacky man, so I think he thinks he can make up for his disorganization with jokes. I would not take his class again tbh.

One of my favourite profs. Super enthusiastic, great sense of humor, and obviously knows the material inside and out. Lectrues and office hours are great and definitely the most important aspects of the course.

The course is difficult and he does not really make it any easier. He is a nice guy but he can be disorganized and unclear, which makes it super confusing.

The material is tough to comprehend. Once you get it, tests and assignments are reasonable. Lecture is important because he does test based more on lecture material. Participation, at least for this term, was marked very hard. Need to participate in lecture, office hour & tutorial to get full marks.

Easily the worst prof i've ever had. Thinks he is funny, but comes across as offensive Doesn't release assignments on time, so when we get to the exam we have no idea what we're doing. The examples given in class are with single words, but on the exam we are expected to know how to apply concepts to full sentences.

Aside from offering easily the hardest courses I have ever taken, Henry is easily the best instructor I have ever had. No other professor cares more about both their students and the subject matter.

Professor Davis is enthusiastic and passionate about the subject matter. The subject material is difficult and he does expect a lot,so if you're looking for a class where you can open the textbook the night before the final, then this probably isn't the class for you. However if you're willing to put in the effort, an A is easily attainable!

Comment:
He has evidently changed LING 100 into course for committed Linguistics aspirants, rather than a general interest option for the many.   This will repel the latter from any pursuit of linguistics, which is a great pity.   He has not cynically made a pushover course to get evaluation points.    But where tough, it is also a pedagogical shambles.

I took this class as an elective and I regret it! don't be lured in by the no final. Henry was disorganized, scattered and not consistent which made it very difficult to study. the midterm was brutal and the structure of the class was horrible. This class turned an interesting subject into a nightmare. Henry is enthusiastic but a bad teacher!

Henry was an absolutely nice prof and has a sense of humor that makes lectures enjoyable at times. However, the midterm was a killer; extremely long and for students taking Ling as an elective it was tough. Depending on the TA you have in tutorial it might or might not be helpful.

Henry is an awesome prof! Energetic and passionate about what he teaches. I never fell asleep during lectures. Midterm was fair - covered exactly what we went over during class. Assignments were a bit tough - work with people and ask TAs for help! No final - easy group poster proj instead. One of my fave courses this year and I did well too!!

Enthusiastic prof, but his assignment and midterm questions were worded way too vaguely. Lecture slides were very helpful, although he sometimes forgets to post them up until the morning of the clicker quiz on the slide's material. Overall a good prof though.

Hilarious and personable prof, but his questions are often extremely confusing. Your best friend will be the discussion board. ALWAYS ask right away what he means on the assignment questions, seriously. They are often phrased with "How?" or "Why?" at the end leaving you to solve how to EXPLAIN your answer even though the problem isn't that hard!

No textbook, his notes are not easy to understand on your own. The TAs explain things better than him. Midterm and exams are creative, but questions are not explicit and take a lot of guessing. Take it with him if you like thinking and guessing with passion.

Comment:
Davis thinks that you can put the pieces together on your own a lot of the time. he expects you to come to a lot of conclusions on your own, sometimes you need it spelled out for you. he expects you to put A + B = C together, when it doesn't work like that for a lot of people. he needs to be much more explicit and write better exams questions.
