Comment:
She is one of the most supportive professors I've ever had!Dr. Blackford presents a varied and interesting look at literature. She sometimes focuses on Psychoanalytic and Marxist critiques, but ultimately she provides a lot of cultural studies-esque critiques. She is open to various readings. Once she sees you're engaged she'll help you out.

Dr. Blackford is one of the best English professors Rutgers Camden has. She is passionate about what she teaches and is always willing to help. Her animation class was very enjoyable and thought provoking.

Dr. Blackford is an excellent professor and probably the smartest individual I have ever encountered. She is always willing to help students. The only people who do not do well are those who do not try their best or ask for help when needed. I have learned so much from Dr. Blackford.

Holly has been one of my favorite professors at Rutgers. She assigns a lot of reading, but she is laid back and easy to approach. If other students were unable to meet her high expectations, that's not because she is "horrible." She gave a ton of feedback and encouraged me to think about children's lit in new ways (yes - sometimes sexual ones).

Children Lit:As my colleagues have stated in previous comments Blackford is a terrible professor. I've never had to rate a professor before not have I ever received a low grade in all of my college career. Not only is her teaching method horrible but she treats this course as if it were high level or as a major. This course dropped my gpa by a lot.

Comment:
I took her for a graduate level course and it was terrible. I have 8 years of teaching experience and her classroom management was horrible. EVERYTHING was symbolic of sex for her (literal examples: statues crying tears and pockets full of stones = sex). I've NEVER had a professor I've rated poorly on this site. Do NOT take her classes.

Comment:
This course is unrealistic to anyone who is not an animation or literature major. The tests are inaccurate and only rely on Blackford's prior knowledge, not what her students have learned. Her grading is solely based on her opinion and she has no vision of own personal thoughts.

Prof. Blackford is a well-read, highly intellectual professor. That said, you must be willing/able to read all assigned reading and be prepared to analyze it...or at least be able to understand her analysis. She is not easy, but she is interesting and informative. She will challenge you, but not unreasonably.

Blackford requires a ton of reading, but you learn so much in her class. She expects a lot from her students and I think that makes the class more interesting because people participate more.

Comment:
Her classes seem to be excuses for her to associate everything and anything with homosexuality. That's fine if the subject warrants it, but it hardly does. She doesn't keep records very well, and her attendance policy is when she feels like it. You won't learn anything in this class and although its a lite workload, it's a waste of time.

She is absolutely wonderful. Very personable and prepared. Grades fairly and makes classes very interesting. My only problem I had with her was that she was CONSTANTLY giving away the endings to novels we were scheduled to read later in the semester and I was looking forward to reading them for myself! Other than that she is awesome.

I had her for Lit of Childhood and it was wonderful. It was a summer course, so the reading schedule was really really intense, but that's what the summer is like. Fascinating insights. I'm not an English major, but I would take her again in a heart beat!

Prof. Blackford is extremely personable and really knows her stuff. She always has interesting perspectives on texts (she's really into queer theory right now). Show up to every class, do what's expected, and you will get along with her fine.

If you are an individual who enjoys english "Don't take her class"!!! Blackford does not allow individuals to develop their own ideas regarding the assigned readings, instead she teaches he own Interpretations of each reading and expects you to regurgitate the information back to you on tests as well as the final paper.

I was extremely interested in Afro American Lit prior to taking Prof. Blackford's however, if you are an individual who thinks "outside of the box" then this class is not for you. I would not recommend her as a professor
