A great teacher who will give you feedback on all assignments and even on things such as resumes and cover letters. Really wants everyone who takes the class to succeed. Good lectures with homework that is graded on good faith. Took again for more advanced finance courses.

Super beneficial to attend class. Attendance is not mandatory, but that is where you learn the most. I bought the book and barely used it since you learn more from him in class. I was able to complete and do well on the homework and tests just from his lectures. Definitely would recommend to take him!

Cool guy but I did not learn a single thing in his class. He does not respond to emails and you basically teach yourself everything.

Hilarious and makes finance super fun. He views your resumes when you send them to him and critiques them and gives you insight on how the things you learn in class are useful. The class has easy quizzes, simple excel assignments, and assignments where you just have to record yourself explaining a subject.

Had Shovein for Personal FInancial Planning, and it has been one of the best classes I've ever taken at UST. He truly cares about the future success of all his students, and it shows. He makes the class all about learning life skills, rather than making it tough. I would recommend this class to all majors- important info we all will need to know!

If you need to take FINC321, this is the best professor! Very clear and animated when lecturing, and very friendly. Tests are based exactly on lectures so you need to attend class, and do light reading/studying on your own. Grading is 25% for 3 exams each, and 25% for the final. Overall great professor, would recommend!

Shovein was great. For a dry, boring class like Finance he easily made it way more bearable and enjoyable than I would have expected. Only talks not much writing on the board so difficult if you don't learn well by just listening but his lectures are fun and very real-world. 4 tests 25% each so big gamble but tests are very conceptual vs. numbers

One of the best profs I have had here at St. Thomas. Not necessarily the easiest, your entire grade hinges on four tests, and you need to go to class to succeed. But he makes class interesting, and gives a wealth of real world knowledge. Regardless of what you are going for, take this professor.

Professor Shovein is one of a favorite teachers! He really brings the real world into the classroom and makes finance seem interesting and useful. We learned a lot about basic business and financial topics as well as personal finance. I took this as a J-term and it was super quick and easy with little HW. Tests make up all of the grade.

Shovein is one of the best professors I have ever had. He teaches the material very well and is readily available to help if you need it. I learned a lot about Finance but way more about life and what it is actually like to be in the workplace. I would recommend taking him 10 times out of 10.

Shovein is a great guy and a great professor. He seems really invested in his students futures and applies class material to real life situations. Tests can be difficult if you are not going to class and taking notes, but you'll most likely enjoy and want to go to his class. Best Finc 321 professor. Take him.

Go to class and do the "professor handouts" he assigns. You will do fine in this class. He is so clear and concise in his methods and really wants everyone to get it. Awesome real world examples too! 4 tests, 25% of your grade but if you do the above, you will get an A!
