Professor Kawall is great if you're interested in philosophy. He has passion for the topics and is willing to take input from anyone. He inspired me to want to major in the subject and is one of my favorite professors.

Writes down every single note you need to know on the board. Tells you EXACTLY what questions are on the test. And he grades papers very easily. Class was always very thought provoking and interesting and a lot of it is discussion based.

Overall a fabulous teacher. I would recommend taking a class with Kawall. Information can be a little thick at times, but he is very good at dissecting it in class.

Kawall is on a personal crusade to save Colgate students from the rampant easy grading at this institution, not by good teaching, either, just "tough love." I have never gotten less than an A- in college from a multitude of professors, but this man seems to grade on a system where Kant would get an A+, Kawall would get an A-, and we all get C's.

Professor Kawall does get a little bit nervous, but in a really cute way. Gives great examples but is such a smart guy that he can always argue the other side- challenging! Allows creativity in papers, pretty much lets you pick what you like. Not a hard grader, but just expects the best. Over all, a great class with awesome discussions & material!

He is a nice guy, but he is inexperienced, and it shows in class. Class is essentially lecture followed by half ass discussion which he usually stops before it can get really interesting. Chooses some weird readings, real esoteric stuff. His paper topics are horrible and he takes off a ton of points for minor things, "Well-written and argued: B-"

Explains matieral very well. Class is well structured with a mix of lecture and class discussion (he provides notes on the board, which is great!). He is hard grader but if you put the effort in, you will do fine.

If you don't like getting C's for papers that you put legitimate effort into, don't take this man for any class. He is very nice, but his grading system sucks, unless you lay down something really really insightful or spit back exactly what he said you will not get a good grade.

does a great job of explaining everything in class. promotes great, heated discussions. has a bit of a wacky sense of humor, which at first is a little awkward, but once you get to know him, he's pretty funny. accomodating and helpful, but still a tough grader.

I really enjoyed this class. kawall really relates to his students well. He loves what he does and is very talented. does great job of giving feedback and encouraging us to do the reading due to blackboard responses.

Integrates philosophical debate with (sometimes boring) lectures. Class is very interesting. It is almost impossible to get an "A" without extreme effort and insight, but he also hand out many grades below "C." He's a good guy.
