It's a shame that, for the most part, these ratings are from undergrads who were in the undergrad accompanying class. Any of the ACM current students and alums would agree with me when I say she is tough, but brilliant. She changed the way I work and think about accompanying. I am lucky to have studied with one of the pioneers in our field.

Even though I had taken the class 8 yrs ago, the only thing I remember from her class was how patronizing, demeaning, untactful, unapologetic, & arrogant she is. She seemed to prefer a certain type of studentquiet & controlled to her liking. Although I do respect her career, I never want to work w her ever again even after all these yrs.

Knows a thing or two about music, to be sure, but has more than enough shortcomings in the personality department to make me never want to see her again. Rude, insincere, and even deceitful. Without getting into it, let's just say she strung me along for no reason and then cut me loose.

She's definitely not the easiest person to tolerate on a weekly basis, but then again, who is? What she lacks in tact she makes up for (in spades) in knowledge, creative teaching, and keeping the ultimate goal of each student's personal development in mind. Simply put, quit your complaining, start practicing, and suck it up.

Greatest teacher I've ever had and it's a pretty impressive list. She's tough - but that's how she gets her results. I wouldn't trade a single hour in her studio and I can't imagine anyone with 2 brain cells that wouldn't take full advantage of any chance to work with her. She's brilliant!!

i am a singer who had the privelege of working with dr. barr, as my accompanist was her student. she is very blunt, but knows what she's doing, and gave me so many new ideas about singing that i'd never even thought of. you'd be lucky to work with her.

Her teaching is wonderful, and she definitely gives pianists awesome insight on how to collaborate with another musician. She's very well-spoken, but could be known for her tough attitude. But she's great anyway!
