I read the textbook to teach myself, he isnt a bad person but he is very boring and chemistry isnt the best subject to be teaching yourself

Ok, Donat rocks. Funny, smart, breaks down the information very well. Really admire him. However, Analytical lab is miserably difficult and he doesnt curve. Truth. Just know bad grades are coming and theres isnt much you can do about it. However, the report at the end will save you if you are a terrible titrator. Put the time into it! It matters

It's not the end of the world if you miss a lecture or two (aside from missing his jokes!) He's a witty character and he'll give as many examples to the lecture class as you need to get through it. I took AP Chemistry before this but he explained ICE tables the best for me -To those reviewing negatively, you HAVE to actually listen and study too!

I would highly recommend taking someone else for this course. Professor Donat reads off of the slides and doesn't give examples. You'll be learning material through the TA and lab. Not only is he not helpful in lecture, but he is also rude outside of class. You are better off with a different professor, and your grade will be better off as well.

I'm not here to start arguments, but I disagree with most of these reviews. It's a STEM class and you are going to have to do some work on your own outside of the classroom . I was familiar with the material from other classes, but the point is that the lectures are just that lectures. If you do the portfolios completely you will be fine. Test hw

Do not take Chemistry with Dr. Donat! Wait for when Dr. Wallach is available. I asked a question from a slide & he said "I wasn't prepared to answer that question" and then joked & said are there any other questions that you guys have that i dont have the answer to? I never went back. He only read off of the slides and poorly explained everything.

His tests probably had a 10-25 point curve for everyone. I spent hours and days studying but only got Bs and Cs, and ended with a C. For most classes hw saves your grade, but his hw was so tough it seemed to hurt then help. Lectures are straight from the book. I didn't find them helpful, and instead i went to a lot of tutoring and taught myself.

Professor Donat is an awful chemistry professor. If you don't understand chemistry very well, DO NOT TAKE DONAT. He does not explain anything in class, he just reads off his lecture slides, which does not help at all. He never posted our final grades in blackboard so you never know where you stand in his class. Take this course with Prof. Wallach.

If you don't have a knack for science and especially need extra help in chem, DO NOT take this course with this professor. Wait and take ot with Dr. Wallach. Dr. Donat doesn't explain material well, and will tell you to google it or look it up. He reads off powerpoints and copied the lab curriculum, so I wonder how well he knows the material.

His lectures werent all that great. he just reads exactly what is on the slide. doesnt post them ahead of time but way too much material to take notes on in class. normally chem profs work out problems in lecture he does not. takes FOREVER to grade you will have no idea where you are in the class because he wont put grades in. test grades take fore

Dr. Donat clearly enjoys the material he is teaching. He gets really into his lectures in class so it's best to attend. I doubt I would've done as well if I had opted to skip lectures like more than half the class. The tests are not too difficult but it is really important to study despite the massive curves.

Taught analytic chem. Best chem prof there. His test questions come from the homework and does the homework on the board in class. Very helpful during office hours, and willing to make sure everyone understands during class

Do the suggested homework problems. Then do them again. Then a third time, maybe a fourth. Lecture is incredibly helpful in solving those problems, and he makes the tests from the homework.

I did not learn a thing in in lecture. You have to do the work on your own and use lecture as a review. If you are looking to be "taught" chemistry, this is not the class for you. The tests take the hardest or most involved questions from each section. For the last 3 exams in course 116, the class average was below a 65!

His teaching style is better than a lot of chem instructors I've seen. Tests are pretty hard, must study of course. Professor is still not recommended-in my case was unapproachable, rude and very ignorant.
