Comment:

McCombe is amazing. He understands students very well, and class is never boring. Nevertheless, 200H was still a challenge and required a good amount of reading which was sometimes a little dense. The only long paper assigned is the last one, however, and the papers build on each other. If you are taking ENG 200H, take McCombe.

Great professor- 10/10 would recommend. Very hard grader but completely worth it if you are skilled at writing and willing to work. Entertaining, interesting classes. Cares about his students.

Comment:

McCombe is one of the best professors at Dayton. You need to understand his humor though. ENG 321 is all about MTV and the rise and fall of the music video. Its a very interesting class and enjoyable to go to. Work isnt too difficult but it is an english class after all so be prepared to write papers.

John McCombe knows his stuff! I never imagined a course on MTV would have so much academic roots, but I loved it. He really connects with his students and shares personal stories, which makes the class that much better. There is a lot of reading but the topics are interesting so that helps!

John is in my opinon without doubt the best teacher here at UD . I believe this to be true because of a combination of the humor he uses in class, his ability to connect with students (on their level), and his interest and knowledge he shows in his subjects he teaches. I assure you that if you take any class if his you will not be disappointed.

Love McCombe! Lots of reading for this class. I hate reading. Still loved the class. He makes it so entertaining to go to class. Knew nothing about Dylan, had really no interest, but took the class on a reference from a friend, and McCombe didn't disappoint. He knows his stuff. Very funny too. Definitely worth it.

Dr. McCombe is really awesome! I did not like English or writing much at all before his class, but he really helped me get over that. There was a lot of work, like 5 big papers, and 6 small writes, but its all over a pretty interesting theme, like ours was Michael Jackson, so it was actually kind of enjoyable. He's a really cool guy to work with.

Great professor. Really goes out of his time to help students and wants to see everyone improve. If you have a problem, going to his office really helps. As long as you do the work and he knows you care, getting an A is pretty easy.

McCombe is a really funny guy. I had him for a really small class so we did a lot of discussion and he gets to know every student. He grades pretty tough, but is good about telling you just what he expects. I think its 5 or 6 major papers you have to write all semester. I'd recommend him.

Definitely one of my favorite professors at UD. Although we definitely had to read a bit (it was a survey class after all), that was pretty much all that was expected. A few papers, but overall not much other than reading. Dr. McCombe is hilarious and keeps class fun, just try not to get him off track. ;)

John is a great Professor. You will learn a lot from his class. He is difficult though. You have to work on your essays, attend class, do your work. He will help you if you go talk to him. He'll tell you exactly what he wants on the essay. He is a very tough grader. He is funny too :)

I hate english but he still made class interesting. Very funny and taught the material but didn't force you to take it really seriously which was nice. He grades papers pretty tough, but reading the novels is not really necessary.

John has been my favorite teacher at Dayton thus far. If you are a good writer you will do well; nothing else counts for much. I never read a single novel, and I got an A (althought I would prob recommend reading them). Extremely helpful and I actually enjoyed the class.

He may be the funniest teacher I've ever had. Always tries to make class fun and we had the most hilarious discussions. He is somewhat vague in class to try and get you to think on your own, but is extremely helpful one on one or over email.
