Comment:

The only thing that made the class hard was Professor Tomlinson. Her grading erratically ranged from hard but fair to downright, horrendously cruel; I would not call it cruel if she would heed any concerns raised about it, but she ignores them all. She is rude as well, to the point where I had to record all conversations with her. Avoid at all cost

No outside thinkers allowed! Be a sheep! Her way is the only way. It doesn't matter if your answers are right. It doesn't matter if your work is right. If you don't do it the way she teaches don't expect higher than a C. Even if you discuss with her your thinking and explain your process she will NOT budge. She is rude and treats students poorly.

Professor Tomlinson may be the most challenging professor I have had in my academic career. She is incredibly smart and knowledgeable however, she will expect you to be the same. If you are good at math this would probably be a fun and challenging class for you but if your not, then be prepared for a long semester.

She says she wants to help but makes you feel very stupid for asking too many questions. The homework is mandatory and is graded, but she grades very tough and if you dont have the work her exact way, you get points off. I wouldnt suggest taking this class with her.

Really good professor, but the class is a lot of work. You are expected to do homework daily and there are weekly quizzes. If you practice and keep up with the notes, which she prints off packets for, you will do fine, just pay attention. She is available for help if needed and does give good advice.

Professor Tomlinson is a kind, knowledgeable professor, but the MATH167 (Calculus 2) course is very difficult. She prints out packets for you to take notes, there are quizzes weekly, she urges group participation, and is willing to work with you to pass the class. There is a lot that youre already expected to know, though.

Even if your work is right, all your answers are right, but you do not think like her, and you are a male, expect poor grades. Does not connect any material to real world applications. Would have been better off taking the class as an online course, because I almost purely used the book to learn material. Cannot teach.

Professor Tomlinson is a great teacher. I took the math class during the summer so I had a small class compared to normal semester. She was extremely helpful when any of us were confused. Do all of the assignments, labs, podcasts, and other materials! They are also very helpful. My favorite math teacher so far.

She is really nice, and very good at math. She does expect you to put a lot of effort into the course, so be prepared. She makes really awkward jokes, but is very nice if you ask her questions. The only problem is that she teaches you the basics and then expects you to be able to do any problem like that. If you take her class, try slader online.

Comment:

Kathy Tomlinson was a great teacher, very helpful, very knowledgeable, and always very nice. I won't be taking anymore math classes due to my major requirements but she is definitely one of the best I've ever had, and I would love to have had her for every math class. Math is not my best subject and she makes you work, but she is excellent.

I would have failed this course if I would have stuck it out. Tomlinson loves math, and expects everyone to be good at it, and occasionally blows up at the class if they aren't.

Requires you to memorize EVERYTHING! So, if you have a hard time remembering equations/processes you should not take her section because you will probably fail. I think she forgets that not everyone is a math whiz and many people struggle.

Professor Tomlinson is incredibly rude and condescending. The material is fairly easy, but she is so rude and strict. All the examples she does are straight out of the book, which is not helpful. Her "labs" and projects are stupid.

I teach math now, but had her a few years ago as a math instructor. Very condescending. Actually called us stupid IN THE CLASSROOM. Worst professor I've ever had. She would yell at us and complain that we should know the material. Funny the professors you remember - the worst and the best.

One of the best professors I've had for any subject. She is quite demanding, and I would not recommend her for the mathematically squeamish. But if you do what she asks you to and follow her guidance, you will be a better mathematician than when you started the class. Period. Nice lady, good communicator, stays on schedule like clockwork. :)

All of the comments other people have posted here about her being rude and a horrible teacher are completely true. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to make sure other students don't have to go through what I had to. DO NOT ENROLL IN ANY OF HER CLASSES. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
