Professor Burke is one of Clark's gems. He is such a brilliant and kind man. It was a pleasure to take his class. I learned so much. And I enjoyed his witty remarks, too.

He is the perfect Classics teacher, with a encyclopedic knowledge, and beard to match. He is funny and easy going, and down to earth in his teaching.

I LOVE prof. Burke. He is a very approachable man whose lectures are really interesting, even if you are not in love with classics. I took both Latin and Roman Art with him and his interest in the subject is really charming. His side jokes are always entertaining and he is a very fair grader. Above all, he is wonderful!!!

Comment:

A great guy and a great teacher. The rambling speculation can put you off at first, but that is part of his conceptual approach to his field. Extremely helpful and nice, and a fairly easy grader so long as you know what you're doing and work hard at it. He also writes extremely good references, by all accounts, as well.

Comment:

Burke is a classic teaching Classics. Always interesting, rambling coherently and quite effectively from one idea to the next, and of course his slides, maps, pictures, and text quotations. Also a relatively stress free class, though he always teaches in the mornings.

You'll love Prof.Burke whether or not you are into greek epic literature because even though he might not be the most interesting teacher in the world sometimes, he is so passionate about the greek epic that he makes you passionate about it too.
