Comment:

He does not have + but only - in his grading system. If you want to get A- or better, you have to be the best student in his class because he does not grade you on how well you did in his class but on your ranking compared to your classmates. Otherwise, he is a very fine and friendly math professor. His lectures are clear, full of examples.

Comment:

He has very weird grading scale. His grading scale seems pretty easy: 80/100 for A, 65/100 for B, and he said that he does have -/+ grade. Unfortunately, the mean grade in class is always 40/100. His test is much more difficult than the HW in textbook and he kind of avoid to give you +/- unless you are very close to 80 or 65 (79 or 64).

Comment:

Cal1 is a hard one if you are non-science major. Otherwise, if you work hard enough, do homework assignments (which are not compulsory), do not miss class, take notes carefully, review your notes everyday, ask for help after class, then you will be fine. Dr. Schwartz has pretty easy grade scale for Cal1: 80/100 then you get an A

Comment:

This class was difficult to excel in. His classes were heavily lectured, with no examples. For a math class, we never used our calculators in class or did practice problems related to the material. It was very difficult to know what calculator function or formula to preform because he did not teach it. Homework and quizzes were useless, only tests.

I failed his class the first time I took it because I wasn't reviewing the material outside of class, I took it again and got an A after I took the time to learn it myself, so you don't really need to go to class. Wicked smart and will help if you ask. Has an insanely easy grading scale.

Dr. Schwartz will literally copy down what is on your textbook word to word on the board. You are then expected to copy that down on your notebook. I have a difficult time staying awake in his class.

I took 111&210. 111 is a joke. Read the book and you get As, don't even need to do homework or quizes. 210 is, on contrary, hard as hell. The worst part is he fails to teach you anything. Lecture is a re-do of examples in the book. His after-class help is none. Fail to raise your intellectual curiosity. A boring a person and a terrible professor.

Dr. Schwartz is a brilliant Mathematician, but he has no business teaching such a low level course. He knows his stuff, but has a hard time bringing it down to our level, and leaves very little time to answer questions about the homework. His lectures consist almost entirely of examples, which then don't translate to material covered on the exams

Very smart mathematician, not such a great teacher. Does lots of examples in place of explanations, which allows students to follow along but leads to problems when they try anything with a new twist, making tests rather difficult.
