Comment:
This was my least favorite class that I've taken at William and Mary. Professor Leruth is kind but it was boring and disorganized, his grading is arbitrary and he does not give constructive criticism, and he let us out late every single class. It did not help that our section was particularly not talkative, but being there frustrated me to no end.

He is so sweet and understanding and really wants everyone to do well. Kind of charming in a Dad-like way. Appreciates everyone's contributions during class. He's not strict with deadlines or grading. Content material was films, readings, short books. 1 midterm, weekly online blog posts, 2 essays, research paper and presentation.

Prof. Leruth is very intelligent and knows a lot about what he's talking about. He does like to ramble and sometimes assigns A LOT of reading, but you just need to you understand general ideas in order to participate. He is very accessible and understands that sometimes life happens and is very willing to accommodate. You get out what you put in.

Although Professor Leruth is pretty disorganized and didn't follow his schedule from the very beginning of the semester, I still learned a lot in his class and he wasn't too hard to follow. Lectures could be a little boring, but overall this class was good.

I found the class very unorganized and unclear. Lectures regularly went beyond scheduled times because of "getting off track". Extremely high volume of reading and homework. Too much overhead on projects, little chance to have creative freedom. Seems like a great French teacher but would not recommend his seminar English class.

Prof Leruth is a very sweet man but an incredibly boring professor. He's very excited about his subject material but this means his lectures stretch on and on. An easy grader, readings aren't necessary, but don't take if you want your spoken French to improve as there is very little discussion time. He's great in office hours to discuss paper ideas

He's so nice! His class won't be stressful and his french is very understandable (for those of us who are advanced, but don't speak perfectly). Very supportive and sweet - like his wife. I'm pretty sure I'll get a "b" in his class, but he was so cool, I don't mind.

Very nice guy and willing to help his students however the class itself left a lot to be desired. Constantly forced to have group discussions when only more often than not 1 person in each group had actually done the reading. That doesn't help. No one did the reading bc there was no incentive to do so. When he lectured I actually learned something.

One of the nicest professors I've had at W&M! I wasn't too crazy about the class though. Fair grading and he lets you know in advance what the exams will be like. But the readings he assigned were too philosophical and complicated- many of the words were not even in the dictionary and too much analyzation! And very little time spent on grammar.

A really nice guy. Very helpful and wants everyone to do well. That said, he assigns a lot of busy work that really counts for 5% of your grade. Assigns 3 novels and 3 papers. Can be frustrating but overall helpful if you do your work. Sometimes feels like a high school class. A good review for beginning to intermediate students studying French.

He's such a nice professor and I'm really enjoying his class. The readings he assigns are usually pretty interesting, and discussions are engaging. He's so helpful and caring, and always willing to talk to you and give individualized attention. Also a fair grader.

He's a great guy, but the class was a bit confusing and far too much work for what it was. He tried really hard, but the class was boring and difficult to understand. Since we did not talk much in class I think my French skills actually diminished. Easy grader though.

Good professors that's always willing to help. Encourages students to meet with him before papers. But the class isn't as interesting as it could be; it might be that he digresses a lot or the amount of workload is too much to handle at once.

Professor Leruth is one of the most helpful professors I've had here. He is so caring and interested in what you have to say. I decided to major in French because of him. You should definitely take a class with him.

Comment:
Prof. Leruth rambles; he cannot focus on his topic and spends most of valuble class time on digressions that have nothing to do with the topic. Not only that, but his accent in French is terrible, and he makes agreement errors in speaking, writing and in correcting.
