Craig is a nice guy but such a boring professor. It's all power point. He knows so much about what HE KNOWS, that it's hard to answer his questions. The required journals are RIDICK.

Bob Craig is one of the best professors I have had at St. Thomas!! Vis Comm can be very intersting if you make it. Prof Craig is very passsionate about the topic and will help you succeed if you want to do well. If you work hard, and care about the class then you will do well. Don't be afraid to ask him for help!

Comment:
Vis Com is a glorified art history class. Lectures are boring, tests are difficult not because of the subject, but because the questions are unclear. There's no filter, no "what's actually useful?", instead we learn about 18 different photographers in from the early 1900's. Totally not worth it. Avoid at all costs.

You should have a HUGE interest in the topic if you're going to take Media Structure and Power. It is a very diffficult subject to understand and your grade is based solely on participation and your research project and presentation. No homework except HEAVY reading. No quizzes or tests. Bob is a good prof. but the class was very difficult.

Comment:
His class has lots of information, the journal does help you understand the concepts in class but is a long project that for a 100 level class is too much. Lots of notes in class, all lecture very boring, no small group interaction, which would have helped out a lot. Classes that are all lecture are boring and don't hold the students attention.

Visual Com is a very hard class. There is a lot of busy work with the Journal. His tests are multiple choice but very difficult. It can be very dry at times but you can learn a lot from this guy. He is very smart and really good one on one with students. When you sign up for this class be ready to work hard.

Very cool guy. Will spend time making sure you understand the topic. He is very very knowledgable. Don't be intimidated by his syllibus- not that hard. Go to class or you will fail for sure. Everything on the test he says in class. Bring your laptop and be prepared to type. Do the Journal ahead of time- the first section is a doosie!

Vis Comm w/ him was interesting. He speaks softly & is hard to hear at times. The portfolio takes HOURS!!! I worked on mine for a total of 45 hours & got a B+. (no joke). His exams are next to impossible as well. Tough course.

i dread going to this class, and i am very interested in design. craig makes things complicated that should be clear, his power points are over-written paragraphs that repeat obvious facts over and over. plus, some of his information he makes you memorize is wrong. the class frustrates me and i hate it, but its required so try to suck up to him.

The class is interesting and so is professor Craig. The tests are hard but as long as you study you should do fine. The journal is a lot of work but as long as you don't put it off you'll do fine. Few short papers which aren't worth much. Overall a good class but challenging.

A few papers, but grade is mostly from midterm, final, and journal. Not hard, but journal is very time consuming. If you don't know how to do something, ask. He'll go way out of his way to help you do well. Definitely a boring class, but if you're interested in media you'll be fine.

Seems knowledgable about subject, willing to stay after class to discuss the journal, tests, papers, whenever needed which is very helpful, so take advantage of that. Tends to read off of the powerpoints, which can be a little frustrating, but overall a good prof.

Do not go into this class thinking it will be easy. That being said, if you stay up on homework you'll be fine, be prepared to take TONS of notes. The class gets pretty long and boring, so take a MWF if you can. He can be a little snippy if you get on his bad side.

Prof. Craig shows lots of slides, whuich I thought made the class go by faster. Make sure to start your journal AT LEAST a week before it's due, it's a lot of work. Assignments and papers are easy. Study your @ss off for the midterm and final, it's pretty much what determines your grade.

Vis Comm is not hard, a couple of papers, start the journal a week or more prior to the due date. You can do it the night before, heaven knows i did and did alright, but its not a good plan. Very helpful, and if you like photography you are in luck, lots of slides. If not..theres lots of slides...
