Comment:
Great lectures and use of real world examples. Tests were rough, seemingly from a test bank. Read the chapters, do the problems, and pay attention in class and you should do fine. The project and short papers help balance out the low test grades.

Didn't really cover much in class time - he would just come in and ask if we had any questions over the homework. He's knowledgable and can teach once asked, but class time would just be practicing through the homework problems. Tests come directly from the homework just with the numbers changed.

At first, I didn't believe what people said, but then I realized it was true. I don't like to talk bad about my professors, but he is LAZY. Tests are in class but on Connect (so he doesn't have to prepare or grade them). I made an A, but it is time-consuming to teach yourself. Trust me when I say he doesn't teach. He was worthless as a professor.

Smalt is very wise and very straight forward. He is blunt and a little intimidating. Lecture was rough because he expected students to read the book and understand the concepts before he went over them in class. There were no surprises with exams, as he would be very specific about what would be covered. Would buy him a drink if I ever ran into him

Here's the deal. He makes you do LearnSmart usually the Sunday before he covers material the following week. He goes over problems more than lectures because that's how you get concepts ingrained in your head. He knows what he's talking about, and he explains if you ask for help. First professor I came across at KSU that I actually enjoyed.

Run run run for your GPA!!! This professor doesn't teach anything in class. He just comes in and works problems. No lectures. He expects students to read the book and understand what they're supposed to do. What are we paying for then??? I can read the book on my own and look up the homework problems online for better explanations!!! Terrible!

RUN...For your life, & then run faster. I like him as a person, but unless you are a Fin Acc guru, you will not learn and he does not lecture or teach (only starts completing problems on the board (problems that will NOT be on your exams) because he uses a test bank. No grade curve, hardest class I have taken to date (I HAD a 3.5 and only 4 to go)

He seems like a nice guy, and is really funny at times. His tests are pretty hard, but he does curve grades. He says he wants to get students use to the pressure of the CPA exam. The one complaint I have is that he never seemed prepared for lecture during class time. He'd just come in and ask if there were questions about the homework.

If you plan to take the CPA, don't leave KSU without taking him for 4100 (if available). As I'm studying for FAR today, I'm still blown away by what he was able to teach in just a 4 week summer session LY. You may have to work hard, as he expects a lot, but you WILL walk away with a drastically improved comprehension of financial accounting.

Smalt is a little arrogant type professor, but once you get used to that, you realize he does a very good job as an Accounting professor. His classes aren't boring at all, he is helpful and fair. Read the chapters in advance, study for the quizzes and you should be in good shape.

It took me awhile to warm up to his rogue personality, but I enjoyed him as a teacher in the end. His four exams were very challenging, but if you study the book you should be fine. The material is very technical. Do NOT wait to start in on the QuickBooks project. That software is a monster to work with, at least in regards to this project.

Accounting 3300 has the potential to be the most boring, awful class you could ever possibly take. And I've taken Advanced Tax and Operations Management. Smalt makes it as fun and cool as possible. If he is available, TAKE HIM.

Dr. Smalt is one of the best professors in KSU. His final is comprehensive and he does not give test reviews but he curves, you'll do well in his class if you'll study. Pay attention to homework, it will help you on the tests.
