The class itself should not be hard, but he makes it difficult. The lectures are absolutely worthless. You are much better off just reading the book. The labs are not difficult but are time consuming and irrelevant. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE A STRONG BACKGROUND IN PHYSICS.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? let me tell you guys about Mr. Chakrabarti. First of all, he is very hard to understand because his accent prevents understanding. The slides in class seem very easy to understand and simple but the problem sets are ridiculously hard and the exams are even worse. The class was miserable. DON'T DO IT!

I thought this class was great! Sure, at times he can be a little boring, but the amount of concepts he covers and the depth of his explanations make this class ten times more interesting than a normal 101 beginning course. However, homework and lab work is over whelming. If you are bad at math or physics, do not take this course, otherwise take it

Hard to understand, really can't explain difficult concepts. He seemed to have forgotten that this is an introductory course, and he seems more geared to physics. Sometimes rude in class, incredibly boring. Class was saved by the TA Katy, who was great.

Good Professor. The class is not hard itself, but be prepared to spend some time, because homeworks are time consuming. If you just will read the textbook, you will get at least B+.

I can tell he's a very smart man, but he should not be teaching undergraduate classes. I couldn't understand anything he was saying and sitting in class was so frustrating that I would leave after about 15 minutes and just go read the textbook which was much more helpful.

This professor was very difficult. I had gone in with prior physics knowledge hoping to fill a requirement. He taught the class as if we were astronomy majors and held high expectations. Mostly honors students were the ones to do well. Labs were good but make sure you read because the curve won't save you!

This class felt nearly impossible. It was discouraging and this professor gave very little help. A nice person whose interests lie in material other than an intro class, and it shows.

Nice guy, shouldn't be teaching introductory courses. Don't take this class unless you took AP physics. Lectures are dull and do not help much on exams. The math is too difficult for a 100-level class, and the labs are annoying.

Professor does not lecture well. Fills certain slides with useful information but quickly moves on. Tries to engage class to answer his questions, but ignores incorrect responses. Labs are easy and enjoyable. TA's are incredibly helpful and explain concepts far better.(Try to get Charlotte!) Background in basic physics is helpful.

If you are really interested in Astronomy, go for it. Hes a little hard to understand and he lectures basically verbatim what the book says. My TF did not speak english clearly at all. The class was frustrating for me, and I wouldnt recommend taking it, however, I am a lit/history person, and merely took the class to get lab science credit.

He drops your lowest homework grade, your lowest midterm grade, and 10% of your grade is an online tutorial that you don't even have to do correctly--just doing earns you the points. There were random in-class quizzes that were somewhat difficult. The lectures were pretty boring but the book is amazing. If you like astronomy, take this class.

His English is fine and he's definitely fluent (see idiot's note below) and he's a great teacher. The class is kind of hard, but if you study, you'll do fine. T.F.s are okay.

The worst prof i've ever had in BU history. He is not only boring, but also doesn't speak very clearly. Lectures were not helpful at all, might as well read the book. Isn't the easiest class either, if u want to just get rid of a requirement. DEFINITELY don't take his class!! My TA also sucked.

Good way to finish a science requirement: easy labs, formula-based homework and skippable lectures (mostly just the textbook on slides. He's obviously interested in the subject and will listen to concerns, but overall this class can be quite a bore and just something to get out of the way.

Good, fair professor. However 2 midterms had averages of 58 and 65. Test info straight from book, go to lecture and read book and do work. Class is sometimes boring and repetitive but prob fun for astronomy majors

I really enjoy AS101 with this professor - he's very helpful, good sense of humor, and if you happen to not be able to understand him, the TAs are wonderful as well. Highly recommend this class.
