Sign up for a class with Tkim. You won't regret it. He's a great guy who's pretty brazen in a really funny way. Taking a class with him was so refreshing and I learned so much. He does great, relevant lectures and is so tuned into his students and their success. Will definitely try to take classes with him in the future!

Comment:

Professor Kim taught me a ton about politics and power dynamics. He also consistently touches on current events and is open to discussing whatever students want to talk about. It was really cool to be in a class environment that was so flexible and related to the real world. So glad I took the class and had him as my prof.

Im so glad I was finally able to take a class with professor Kim! His intro to us politics class was perfect for someone looking to get into politics or who has never taken a politics class before. Hes very caring and really accessible in and outside of class!

Intro to US Politics with Professor Kim has been one of my favorite classes Ive taken at Scripps so far. Hes an extremely engaging professor and honestly cares about his students education! There are a lot of readings but they are all super relevant and he even gives students the opportunity to protest midterms! Would take again!

I absolutely loved Professor kims Intro to US Politics class! He really challenges the way students think about politics and the world but in a really approachable way. He is also super accessible outside of class and always wants to help his students. Id love to have him as a professor again!

Prof Kim is so great! His class is so focused on what the students are interested in, and he really makes you see politics and the world in a new way! He is really accommodating and wants everyone in the class to learn. Lectures are always super interesting and there's lots of room for discussion and making the class about what students care about!

Prof Kim is the perfect professor to teach about politics. He challenges his students to be great, and really cares about their happiness in the class :) Even though I am a first year and I was afraid to take his class, Prof Kim helped me feel more confident and guided me through learning how power functions in the US

Thomas Kim's class was SUPER interesting and informative. He really cares about what his students want to learn and is really flexible in terms of his teaching agenda but still makes sure we are all getting the necessary information. Overall such a good class and I'd definitely take it again!

Tkim is a homie. I learned a ton from him and also got a good grade. He's a super reasonable grader and assigns reasonable readings. He even encouraged us to protest his midterm! Such a chiller. Take this class if you wanna up that GPA, relax and learn a bunch.

Best Professor ever!!!! He will actually change the way you view power/politics--I'm soo grateful I took his class (and it makes literally everything easy to critically analyze). Also if you just pay attention in class and skim/read the readings you're set--but be prepared to have your mind blown! Take everything you can with him!!

Makes politics comprehensible. You don't have to take notes in this class or do all of the reading (I did about half of it). Just engage in discussion and ask questions if things aren't clear. He's very flexible. Yes, he uses the F word about 10 times per class. If that bothers you, you have bigger problems than his teaching style.

Comment:

Students in this class either love him or hate him. He can be very abrasive and swears openly in class. However, his ideas are provocative and he exposes the manipulative tactics behind the rhetoric of mainstream politics. Even those who dislike him don't deny that they a lot from this class and the concepts follow you into other classes.

Extremely rude and pompous. Very cocky about his achievements. He does well in a lecture environment but difficult to deal with when meeting personally. Also clearly holds pre-conceived judgements about each student depending on what school they are from.

He is a good teacher, and knows his material well. Not very friendly or helpful one- on-one, and openly stereotypes Scripps women, and not with a very positive regard.
