I have never had a professor so bad and so condescending. Despite not being clear about what he wants, he'll ridicule you in his feedback as if you're supposed to be an expert before taking his class. I would never recommend taking a class with him. I completed 4 years at ISU and loved my time there. This class was an exception.

Dr. Hawkins is a very nice and understanding guy. Took this class completely online and he's pretty cool. simple discussion every week but midterm and final are HARD and have an essay for each as well. It requires a lottt of reading but if you read each chapter you will be okay. There are many assignments and the class involves a lot of terminology

This was a very challenging class and the professor doesn't care if your doing bad. He doesn't mind giving back grades where half the class fails. There are obnoxious amounts of reading each night (between 5-100 pages). Primary source activity's are hard and very unclear on how they are graded. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.

Hawkins is one of the worst professors I have had the displeasure of working with in my 13 years of ever being a student. He is clearly very passionate about his subject, but he does a poor job of making this class enjoyable for the students who dont find the subject interesting. Condescending and apathetic describe this professor.

Great professor who knows his stuff! Come to class prepared and you will do great! He is very nice and understanding. There is a lot of reading but it's nothing that can't be handled. He does lecture a ton but makes them very interesting. Overall he is a great professor! Especially if you enjoy history.

Do NOT take this class. He is a very hard grader. Don't ask him a question either he will tell you its in the book. He lectures non stop and they are very looooong and very boring. I would have not taken this class if i knew it was going to be like a 400 level class. It isn't the students either it is the professor not being clear, or helping you.

Be prepared to read until your eyes bleed, just so you're not bamboozled. Hawkins does know his information but his care for student success is very low. Lectures are long and boring.

Professor Hawkins has provided a great learning experience on the history of Mexico. The best advice would be to get ahead on your reading, come to class prepared with notes from the passage, answer questions, and chill. Simple as that. Also, professor Hawkins provides a study guide that can be very useful. Great class overall.

Do NOT take this class. Way too much material. If you want to pass a history class, don't sign up for him. If he asks a question and the students don't know the answer, you sit there in awkward silence for 5 minutes. Clearly the teaching style is not working. Most certain Ivy Tech would have done a much better job at teaching this.

This is the worst professor I h ave taken in my 3 years of being here this is only a 1oo class and I would think that it is equivalent to my 400 classes. He goes over so much information in class that you really do not get to learn anything. If you do take this class be prepared to read your life away. 4 books. Good luck don't do it!

This professor is terrible. Do not take his class unless you are a history major you would think his class is a 400 level class as much work that is given. He clearly doesn't expect you to have a life while taking this class because you will be doing allot of work .

This really is not hard to pass as long as you read and do ALL the assignments. He is not a clear teacher, if you do not like History I suggest you not take this class at all. If you are forced to take this class due to credit requirements make sure you read the syllabus COMPLETELY and ask questions because his directions are not clear at all.

I am in the class now and I am looking at all the people that commented and they are right! We should get a 300 or 400 credit for taking this class. He wants to much. All most everyone failed the first Writing assignment. Sometimes like in this case its the teacher not the students.

Provides a detailed schedule, and all tests/quizzes are provided online before they are taken. Unfortunately, he demands a ridiculous amount of prep before his tests, which are all essay answers: Broad questions, but demands very detailed answers. Quite frankly asks too much for a class which is required but not of interest to most students.

Dr. Hawkins expertise is Latin America and he definitely showed it with an amazing depth of knowledge in this Intro-to-LA-history. A 300level course, there was too much homework for my taste (1-2assignments due each week); almost feeling like busywork. Overall the class was not difficult, just don't get behind. I'd try Dr. Hawkins once.

He knows a lot about history but his tests and essays are VERY DIFFICULT! You are required to memorize essays and hand write them from memory in detail during class.

This professor is awesome! He has a very strong command of the subject matter. Although most of the reviews on here say that he is hard, I would have to disagree. He follows a very detailed schedule that he gives the class. He also puts all of the quiz/test questions online. Excellent professor, would definitely re-take this course if I could.

This class is hard. If you don't put effort into it you're not going to do well. He gives you a schedule - use it. Read the chapters before class, TAKE NOTES, and get his powerpoints off blackboard. Tests are all essay, and they ask for a LOT of information. He knows and likes the subject, just asks way too much for an intro non-major class...
