No homework, just one midterm and a final which are both 2, 2.5 long page essays on prompts that he gives you. Really slow grader, doesn't use canvas at all. I barely showed up to class and didn't really read, but listening to his lectures would probably give you a better grade on your papers.

Took Prof. Lott for Phil61 and it was the easiest class. Graded on the midterm and final. You will pass if you do the reading, and show up to get the prompt for the midterm. He's disorganized, but if you ask him, he'll get it fixed. Midterm and final are 5-page papers. Easy prompts.

professor Lott knows his stuff. however if you do not show up to class and are not paying attention in class it can get hard very quickly. on the other hand Professor Lott genuinely inspired me and i am glad to say i actually learned in his class. i took his Phil10 class and i am lucky to be taking Phil61 with him in the upcoming semester.

Comment:
Pretty great professor, his lectures are pretty engaging. The book he uses is difficult to read, though he does a great job of explaining in his lectures, so show up. The class is based on 3 leniently graded in class essays and pop-quiz participation, you'll do fine as long as you understand the concepts. Very insightful class, taught me to think

A promising and passionate lecturer? Yes. Caring professor? No. Avoid Lott, for the love of god. He assigns no homework, unorganized for the most part. Reply back to emails? Nope. Takes forever to grade midterms and final. Atrocious handwriting in lectures and feedback. Grades were due on 5/27/16. It's 6/11/16 and still no final grade. Good luck.

Comment:
Lott is very confusing. If you sit in the back it's hard to hear him and our classroom had a chalkboard so we couldn't understand his chicken-scratch. Your grade depends on 4 essays and I know some people who didn't turn in one or two essays that got Bs in the class which indicates his grading has no structure. Make sure to read everything.

Comment:
Teacher is confusing a lot of the time, unorganized and forgets to give back graded papers, and you never know if what you wrote is up to his standards or not. I was lucky to get an A- without doing any of the readings. Avoid this class if you can, its very stressful and confusing.

Comment:
This class consists primarily of in class essays, which is nice. There are no take home essays. However, he isn't the clearest teacher. His lectures were sometimes confusing. I somehow ended up with a B in the class, so he's not that bad of a professor. He also lets some students do presentations to help bring up their grade.

Tommy Lott, in my 5 years of attending SJSU, has got to be the worst teacher that I've had the chance of taking. Where should I begin? (as if the other views don't capture his awfulness.) VERY unorganized. Considering you can read his handwriting, you won't know what to take notes on because he throws everything at you at once. (AVOID LOTT )

Class based on 3 in class writing assignments and one presentation. He is not clear on what he wants for writings but if you go to class everyday, try, and write what he wants to hear and you will pass. Don't get or read any of the texts because writing prompts are based only on lectures.

Professor Lott is incredibly passionate and brilliant. His class is not hard at all. Just pay attention and take good notes. He usually writes up outlines before a lecture, so just make sure your notes correspond with that. He's so funny and very approachable during class. I definitely recommend him.

Professor Lott was an awesome Teacher. He actually taught the best class I ever had in my college career. I actually felt inspired by his class, his lecture and felt like his class had real depth to it, unlike majority of my other classes and teacher's lectures.

Professor makes very little sense when lecturing. He is very passionate but unable to channel it through efficient teaching. I strongly recommend to take another professor unless you're the type to like challenges and confusion.

Nice guy, but very confusing teacher. Scribbles all over the board and expects you to understand. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE READING! He divides the course up unevenly so sometimes a test would be on two readings and other times it would be on seven...you have to keep up and you can't cram.

This Professor was seriously my favorite professor ever. He was so passionate about his teaching, and knowledgeable and his lectures were so empowered. His class was no easy peezy class, but, I learned so much, and truly felt inspired afterwards. He is fair and approachable and I will never forget his class.

Comment:
This class is honestly very rigorous in terms of understanding philosophy. He is not always clear in his teachings but makes up for it in passion, because you can really tell he loves philosophy. Make sure to really read the book. He also tries to help you out with open note tests. This class is not for the lazy and uninterested people though.
