Comment:

Dr. Singh was educated in University of Delhi, Oxford, Cambridge England, and U of Wisconsin. Extremely well learned, and rounded. He was professorial as I would imagine they were in the finest of schools around the world. You had to know everything. You had to write well, correct spelling and grammar. It prepared you for other studies and papers.

Comment:

(In the 80s) I will always remember Dr. Singh. His lectures were brilliant, inspired and unforgettable, because he was so well-travelled, well-read and knowledgeable. He made history come alive for me. He always said, "When you go to _____, you will see/read/learn..." Never IF, but always WHEN. He had the power to inspire like no one else.

Comment:

This was my all-time favorite professor at FSU! He was very strict, but I loved it. His storytelling was so subtle and you could tell when he had that twinkle in his eye that something was going to be amazing or have a twist. I always used to love seeing him around campus; it would be a "Bawa Singh sighting" and would bring such a smile to my face.

Comment:

Singh is a tough teacher but he is also a great teacher. This man knows his stuff! If you are looking for an easy class, do not take ANY of his classes but if you are a serious student, he's awesome. He can be a tough grader but he's fair. Come to class and read the book. He's a very passionate teacher which make his lectures interesting.

Comment:

Singh is a great lecturer for serious students. Slackers and rude students beware! He is strict about classroom manners, so observe what he requires and do it. His tests are difficult and challenging, but not rediculously so. It is a very hard class, but one of the most rewarding. He does not suffer losers in his class. I would take him again.

a good teacher. but his class is mislabeled. it should be history of india instead of history of asia...we spent 2&1/2 months on india alone...yet covered 3000 years of chinese history in 2 weeks, japan one week, and just forget about everything else on that continent. very tough, and mean..no yawning, laughing...borders facisism

A Nazi from India! He is very strict, VERY!!! Do not yawn too loud in class or he will call you out on it. If you are 2 minutes late to class I recommend not going. He does have somewhat of a sense of humor, however, make sure you do not laugh out loud, just a simple smile will do. Hardest multiple choice tests I have ever taken.

Dr. Singh is an excellent professor. His tests can be difficult as they require you to memorize small details, nevertheless I got an 'A' in the class It was the greatest 'A' I earned in college. If you find the subject material interesting and do not mind doing a little work you should enjoy his classes.

Interesting guy but class environment sucks. no questions and don't show up late. Tests are RIDICULOUS! try remebering 2000 years of chinese history with dates including every dynasty and at least 20 different rulers. (thats for just one test) stickler for dates.

I am glad he is still around. I took two courses with him 35 years ago and am glad I did. I got a B in the first and an A in the second. He also wrote a good letter of recommendation for me for grad school. I have modeled some of my lecture style on his. I also took 2 years of ancient Greek with his wife, Karen. she was excellent, too.

His lectures suck and he looks pissed off all the time but he really knows his history. If you want to learn and are dedicated to learning then take his course. Avoid if you want something easy.

Singh gives me the fear, as he should you. Tests are REDICULOUS. I got out with a "C", and I thanked god for it. But lectures are interesting.

He has a passionate form of lecturing, which is both stylistic and emotional. It is true that he is strict, and sometimes rude in his grumpy age, but he is still a good storyteller. The bad side is that his tests are impossibly difficult to study for, as they are essentially random trivia.

Singh's teaching style is weak, and his tests (multiple choice) do not reflect an understanding of the subject, but DO contain many trivia questions from the lectures, to make sure you were listening, such as "what modern movie depicts such-and-such?" As a history major, I am unimpressed.

Take the test seriously. If Stalin had his class he would admire Singh's control of the classroom. This is a great factor of the class because no one ask stupid questions or detracts from the learning environment. If you want a REALLY serious history course than take the class.
