Comment:

Not only does she force you to prove her opinion during her essay prompts, she also will patronize anyone who would like to do something different. She breaks the class into groups constantly to avoid teaching and actually having to explain the test. Any medical/family emergency is NOT ACCEPTABLE to her EVEN WITH DOCUMENTATION.

The WORST professor. She is NOT fair and doesnt care. She is tough, and gives a lot of assignments. I failed all my other classes because I had to focus on her class only. The amount of work I did in her class caused me A LOT of stress and anxiety. I would never recommend, did put all my effort into her class and tried my best and it wasnt enough.

She is a very talented professional and teacher, this translates into doing lots of reading, writing, and *rewriting*. If you're not an experienced writer of thesis papers, writing for her is a challenge. Whether its a good or bad one is if you have time to read and write in your schedule. She'll grill ya, but true, honest and supportive always

She's nice but she gives too much work. I think she should stop giving so much work and keep into consideration that we have lives outside of school and we have more classes. 1 semester with this lady is like 2 whole years in high school. she gives way too much work which I find super unnecessary because it eventually gets harder to focus

If you are looking to just get through ENG 102 for the credits, then she may not be the best choice. But if you really want to learn, she's more than proficient to teach you. She does require all students to be serious, that means making sure you have all your work in on time, and have your books with you for class. She's good. If you're serious.

One of the best professors. Tough for sure. Also a whole lot of reading, papers, and homework. BUT she wants to make you a better writer and you will become one at the end of her class. If your lazy or dont like doing work.. stay away. Im not a great writer and got a good grade while juggling this class with many others as well as work.

Do not take this class. If you are an average writer then you will fail this class due to her standards. She was tough and expects perfection from you. She doesn't care if you have other classes or a job you need to tend too, her workload is insane. I barely passed and last semester I got a A+ in English. She has nothing better to do.

Dr Payne is an amazing teacher. I truly learned in her class and felt that i got a lot out of it. This class is no joke though, you must go to class and read all of the material to get a good grade. If you put the work in she will reward you with the grades you deserve. She has been one of the best teachers I've ever had at NCC.

Prof Payne is a great professor, but if you're taking more than 2 classes, do not, I repeat DO NOT take any of her classes. She gives you really good readings, but at one point the reading will become a burden because you will essays, revisions, and notes from those readings due. I'm usually on top of all my classes, but this was awful.

Those who wrote bad comments about Payne is just mad because they didn't put the effort needed into her class. Yes her class is a lot of work but that's only because she is preparing us for bigger and better things. Anyone can take a professor who hands out A's like its their job, however she dedicates herself into the students put the effort.

Gives a lot of work and readings!!! Boring readings. Wants you to write your paper like 5 times before the final paper is due. You have to do all of your work to pass. Makes you do discussion boards for every class you have.

Prepare to do quite a bit of reading in Professor Payne's course. You're expected to read 80+ pages sometimes and write a response to what you've read. That being said it's an interesting class if you're trying to get a better idea of understanding what you're reading. Expect to do group discussions everyday also.

Nice professor. But, not helpful, felt extremely rushed with the work. She was very unclear about what she was looking for with her summaries. Don't recommend this class. Unless you like to read a lot,and write for every single class.

I wouldn't recommend taking her. Class felt rushed because of the workload she gives. I did not enjoy her class at all. She gives long reading assignments every class. You don't really do much besides read and go over the reading. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

Nice lady who obviously loves her job & tries her best 4 students but her work load ruins the class. If u are a busy person/average reader, stay away. Her class is more for an enthusiast than a regular student. If you aren't used to reading 100+ pages a night, this class will get old super fast. Esp when you add in those annoying reading responses.

I really enjoyed her class. Yes, she makes you work for your grade and is a tough grader but I don't regret taking her class at all. The books and poems we read have still stuck with me to this day. She has great taste in literature and her discussions were always so engaging. She really knows her stuff and teaches it well. I learned a lot from her
