Comment:
Tukumbi is very tough, but in the long run he wants to see you succeed. I took his Introduction to International Studies class, and he had 3 papers, and 2 tests. I didn't do well on any of the papers, and I didn't do well on the midterm. I studied like crazy for the final and I went to EVERY class and I got a B- rather than my original C-.

Comment:
You will learn to sit through boredom because 9/10 Tukumbi classes are lectures. It's not very interactive, so you will most likely just sit there and take notes. But if you listen to his lectures, you will learn a lot and it definitely helps with his 8-10+ page papers. So read the text and stay alert!

Somewhat difficult to communicate with. Appears to have problems with organization. The system of scheduling appointments was confusing and sometimes ineffective. A lot of rescheduling. However, the professor certainly does have an impressive background and international experience. Interesting lectures.

Long boring lectures, doesn't warn you when papers are coming up. Has a very ineffective TA. Tough grader, can't miss class.

Tukumbi is a true intellectual and challenges his students to think critically. Yes, he's a genius and sometimes gets caught up in processing his own thoughts, but the criticism and advice he gave me as my advisor have prepared me well to meet the real world head on. If you want easy, move on. If you want real, stay put.

Comment:
I found him to be the toughest teacher at Wells (possibly a combination of his expectations and of my inability to clearly understand those expectations). Obviously very intelligent, but took a subject that I was initially interested in and presented it in a very inaccessible way. Very formal and soft spoken man. Gave good feedback one on one.

This guy is insane. I mean, he's very intelligent, but oh my GOD. I cannot follow his classes at all, and he can get REALLY boring. If you are an academic type, his classes will be great, but if you want discussion, sorry. This guy isn't for you.

Comment:
BRILLIANT. Accent can make following the course of lecture challenging; I suggest copious notes. Lectures through tangent after tangent and yet always knows what he's talking about, especially when I'm lost. Hard grader, so work hard, and think hard. "That is excellent, excellent, but what DOES that mean?"

Prof. Lumumba-Kasongo is probably the smartest man I've ever met, and he cares about his students (although he can come off as very formal). He is very encouraging to students who speak in class.

brilliant man, very knowledgable. expects you to work hard and earn your grade. classes are mainly lecture-based, and his accent tends to put you to sleep. he's got some great stories about death threats, speeding, and whatever book he's just written.

I respect this man. In his feild I know he is one f the best, but I do not want him as a Wells 101 teacher. He's a tough teacher to get by and I guess this is one of the reasons. Also there is no class discussion, but that is really just his teaching style. And I respect that.

if i stay awake for the whole class (his voice is very monotone), I find it somewhat interesting, a lot of it is what we read the night before, though his real life "adventures" can be amusing. It is definately a class where you must do all the readings and work hard!

Professor Lumumba-Kasongo is very smart and very nice. He makes everything clear from the first day of class. People say he is difficult, but I believe that is because you can't slack off and expect not to see it reflected in your grade.
