Best prof I ever had. Really interesting and funny, and told great stories to illustrate the material. Stressed how sociology is a science, and useful in everyday life. I was going to major in sociology, but took a couple of courses from other soc. professors and they were awful.

My favorite sociology professor at UST. Grade was based on a few papers, gives good feedback and cares for his students. I highly recommend taking ANY class that Kinney teaches!

Dr. Kinney was the best Professor I have had at UST. He made the class extremely engaging and made it very clear as to what was going to be on the exams at least a week beforehand. He ended up cancelling our final paper and is a super cool guy.

Best prof I've had at UST. Fun, interesting, really helpful. He respects all points of view and you don't have to worry about expressing your opinion.

Your whole grade is the three exams and a couple homework assignments. He does not use any sort of presentation in class, he just stands and talks. You lose points if you leave class to use the bathroom or if your phone accidentally goes off. That being said, the class was interesting and I enjoyed what I learned.

Dr. Kinney is a great professor, his lectures are easy to follow and learn from. He has 3 tests that are very crucial to your overall grade and cover multiple chapters... beware, these are hard tests. There is no final, but there is a final take-home project that is fun because it allows you to chose your topic of interest for it. Highly recommend!

Professor Kinney is super passionate, engaging, and hilarious. His classes are pretty much all lecture based, with a few small group discussions, but they are super interesting and he includes lots of current events and statistics. Taking notes is a must and you have to study a lot for the tests, but he gives really detailed study guides.

Professor Kinney is super intelligent and the material he teaches is super interesting. His self and society class is really applicable to everyday life and it makes you look at the world through a different lens. Four papers 4 pages each about any topic that was previously looked at in class and applied to your own life. Super easy. Recommended!

Would definitely take again. Kinney made the material enjoyable. There are 4-5 short papers, which are pretty open-ended. Mostly lecture, with small group discussions after each section. Don't bother with the books but take notes to refer to for the papers.

This was a great class with super engaging lectures. Taking notes during class is a must, and the tests require a ton of studying. Kinney gives out a test study guide, so review the essay questions a lot, if you miss any on the test, it's very hard to recover your grade. Overall, a difficult yet interesting, fun class.

Professor Kinney really helped make Intro to Soc. enjoyable. He makes lots of pop culture references and really keeps lecture interesting. Tests are a little harder, but once you figure out how to study for it, you should have no problem. Really keeps class open for discussion, and is really helpful if you need extra help on assignments.

Professor Kinney makes the class much more enjoyable, especially for an intro course. He can be fairly stubborn in his thinking, but still makes the lectures very interesting and is very funny. The class is almost entirely lecture based, and he doesn't allow you to use any electronics so no laptops. Keep up with the readings and you'll be fine.

Professor Kinney is one of the best teachers I have ever had, hands down. He is very clear with what he expects and reminds you throughout the semester as well. Class is very lecture based and honestly, take notes on EVERYTHING. Don't miss class and study HARD for all tests. Know the material well and you'll probably get an A.

I like Kinney. He's a pretty funny dude, and makes a point of being really politically correct as to not offend anyone, which I respect. The class is almost entirely lecture based, so take good notes. He gives us a study guide that more than encompasses what to expect on the test. Don't forget to study from the book. Overall an enjoyable class.

Great class and great professor although he can be somewhat stubborn in his thinking. It is not easy to disagree with him. Overall I would take him again. For self and society there are no tests but 4 medium papers (5-7 pages). I honestly haven't used any of the books but just go to class and take detailed notes.

I really enjoyed his class! I took the TR 1:30-3:10 last semester and thought it was a great class to end the day. He keeps lecture pretty entertaining with videos, stories, and class discussions. Tests are pretty easy if you study the review study guide he gives you a week before each test. No quizzes. 3-4 tests. Final paper. I would take again!

One of my favorite professors thus far. His lectures are long, but they are interesting. He makes jokes, tells real life stories, and shows videos. There was no homework in this class other than reading which was not essential to the class, but more than helpful on the test. Tests were not easy, but they were not too challenging.

Kinney is great! Super interesting and keeps the course really chill. Gives study guides for each exam. They are not super easy tests if you don't go to class and take notes and study what he says to. I had to work study a good amount to get good grades. Only 3 tests, not final except a final exam! Highly recommend!
