Prof Masquelier is so lovely! I took her Fall 2020 (COVID) for a new course called Infection & Inequality. I highly recommend it & her! There are a lot of readings but many of them are very fascinating. Lectures can be a bit boring, but the discussions were interesting & most of our grades were short papers so no disadvantage if you zone out.

Dr. Masquelier is one of my favorite professors at Tulane. Although some people don't like her because she can be disorganized, she is a true expert on the topics she teaches and cares deeply about her students' success. If you work hard, you will do well, and she will help you do so.

Grades are mostly from your essays and she is a tough grader. Nice woman though. Her opinion tends to be the only one that is right so it can stifle conversation at times.

Dr. Masquelier is really knowledgable and invested in her field. Although her lectures are somewhat long, winding, and unorganized, she makes some really interesting points. The class is mainly discussion and she was really interested in hearing what we had to say. One complaint is that she assigns 6-10 page papers for a weekend during midterms.

I had Professor Masquelier for an Honors Colloquium, so I don't have a strong grasp of what her teaching style is in a more traditional undergraduate setting, but I can speak to how driven she was in our class to explore every facet of youth cultures that we could. Her short writing assignments were interesting but were graded somewhat harshly.

Professor Masquelier is incredibly well-informed and class discussion was always lively. I really enjoyed this course and I hope I can take more with her! There were a lot of readings and some writing but as long as you did the work and came to discussion prepared, you'd be fine. Take anything you can with Professor Masquelier!!

Comment:
This class was awful. The professor gave us way too much to read, it was a undergrad/grad combined class and even the grad students said it was too much. Class discussion is encouraged but she shoots down a lot of people's opinions. Also, she is technologically incompetent, doesn't respond to emails and frequently loses students' papers.

Very disorganized. Class ends with you knowing only 15% of your grade. Doesn't really talk about research paper, but I'd suggest you choose a feminist perspective. To put things in perspective, she ruined my 4.0 in biology. And I'm better at writing than science. All that said, she's nice and the class is interesting.

Very helpful, always available outside of class for help with assignments. Readings were interesting, and her expertise lended a lot to the course. She is extremely caring towards her students, and seems to genuinely enjoy helping students learn.

Lots of reading, not too much writing. Its hard to get an A (most people get B's), but for a writing seminar, the papers are short and there are a lot of fluff grades like journal entries.
