Great guy! He is very clear about his expectations for the course and conveys the material well. The tests are all inQsit. He will almost undoubtably fall behind in lecture and throw out a few chapters the last week. Gives out 15 easy pop quizzes throughout the semester to encourage attendance. If you are taking G101 take it with Betz.

Comment:

Betz really enjoys Geology and you can tell by the way he talks about it. Unfortunately, I don't share his enthusiasm. One thing I would do differently in this class is take the study guide to class and fill it out during class instead of waiting until the last minute to look at it!

Extremely difficult. I studied for everything and the hightst I got was a C.. the rest were Ds and I got an F on the final. He said he wouldnt drop our Final Test grade, but he actually did!!! :-D SO that made me happy... class is booooring, but he's a nice guy. Just PAY ATTENTION in class & ATTEND!! Labs are ok, but they are boring and mandatory.

Incredibly helpful prof... didnt go to half the lectures (and fell asleep in the ones i went to) but still ended up with an A in the class.... can be hard but with extra credit it is do-able... he loves geology

Tried in some pretty morbid jokes in some lectures, and knew his stuff. If you have to take the class I would get him. Gives a crap load of extra credit. I failed the Lab which is ridiculously hard, but had so much extra credit got an A in the class.

If you go to class, go to lab, and take the tests, i dont think it is possible to fail this class. Very easy, very little work, extra credit is available. He is extremely nice and very approachable. I would recommend this prof. for geology 101.
