Comment:

I wasn't a huge fan of the software used to teach Python in this class, and Kussmaul's way of phrasing things could be confusing for people not already familiar with some aspects of CS. However, he's a nice, accessible guy and I liked that this class was mostly showing us actual programs instead of lectures about syntax. Attendance isn't mandatory!

Comment:

He's a really great guy in general. He doesn't like to lecture very much. He instead prefers to give assignments and then walk you through as you encounter trouble. This is the optimal way to teach CS in my opinion. His exams were also open notes, which makes a lot of sense given how most people program. 10/10 very interesting person, great prof.

AMAZING professor and person. Highly recommended to students who enjoy computer technology. He is very understanding and helpful, always willing to help students who ask for help. One of the best professors I've ever had.

His instruction is clear and direct. He carefully considers questions before answering them and respects the opinions of his students. He is always glad to help and very knowledgeable (in both the theoretical and the practical). One of my favorite professors.

I was scared going into CSI110 and reading these reviews. After taking the class though I found that he was very clear with both directions and explaining things. He takes the time to make sure that every student is understanding the material.

Took Software Engineering the first time offered. Class taught me some very useful things, though it was difficult at times. The difficulty makes it worth it in the end, and you walk away with more knowledge than you realize.

I must admit that Dr. Kussmaul knows the subject very well, although he is not that good at teaching it. I found the class rather difficult, and it turned me off to further Computer Science courses.

He is very unclear in what he wants us to do, he makes things very complicated, he doesn't teach very well, and we didn't really accomplish anything all semester. He IS a very smart man, though. He just needs to learn how to teach.

He is really really nice. One day he brought in cookies that he baked. He is really helpful with the progrmas, too. However, he can't really teach that well. He definitely knows what he's doing and is really smart, but just can't teach.-MP
