Dave is a pretty great guy. You can be real with him about things in your life. That said, he's not the best teacher I've had. He taught us a few tricks and said "alright, make things." Almost everything I learned in that class, I learned on my own. Also, do things you need to do early, or you'll be regretting it.

Dave is a great professor but more than that the day my uncle died I ended up finding out near his office. I completely broke down sobbing uncontrollably. He hugged me, comforted me, made me tea and calmed me down for over an hour. And this was all before he was even my professor. He didn't even know my name at the time.

One of the worst professors I have had by far. Dave doesn't teach you anything he expects you to know everything and then yells at you when you don't. I was a good student, came everyday and ended up with the most work completed. He doesn't motivate, he uses intimidation! I did not receive one positive comment the entire semester. Ruined ceramics.

Really didn't like him as a 'teacher'. Never gives any guidelines for what is expected and can only tell you things are wrong - but never why. Expects everyone to be an expert since he is but won't teach anything. Made me hate ceramics which I used to love.

Swenson is the kind of teacher I seek. He really taught me to work with materials and to find my way through the process. He is straight-up, approachable, and cares about his students. You can't ask for more.
