Comment:
Chem 150 Great Discoveries is a philosophy class, not a natural science class. Be aware that you will have lots of assignments to finish. I do not think this professor behaves like a professor cause he just lives in his own world.

Comment:
Great Discoveries is a PHILOSOPHY class, not history or chemistry. Class is not super engaging and largely spent on watching movies/reading articles, but his occasional original insights are intriguing. Content is not focused or straightforward, more about brief exposure and meandering. An oddball course for oddball thinkers; not for everyone.

Assignments are LOTS OF READING, then paraphrase/respond. Delves into philosophy of science, not just history. Lectures and material fun & genuinely thought-provoking even if a little pedantic and slow. Class is easier than syllabus seems (ex. no written discussion q's) Not really discussion; more lecture. Get old editions of books; doesn't matter.

Dr. Thompson is a bit odd, but his lectures are always insightful. The class is less about learning about the different topics, but about applying a different thought process. He is caring and always willing to talk, but again, he is a bit odd.

Professor Thompson was a great first experience in the chemistry department. Although he has rather odd lectures, he offers many opportunities to work with him outside of class. Also, take home collaborative tests make up 50% of tests taken. He will work with you.

Most freshman take this class and don't know how to study yet. It's your own fault if you don't get an A.. it means you didn't do the work. You don't have to go to class but then you won't know what's most important and what will be covered on the test. take home testeasy-good for studying, final is hard, but he is a fair grader in the end!

Honestly, I had to teach myself all of the material using you tube videos and the textbook. His lectures are pretty interesting but he digresses a lot. He will definitely answer any questions that you have, but he tends to be so passionate that he is confusing. He is an expert for sure but I think he tends to forget that his students aren't.

Professor Thompson is one of my favorite teachers! He is very smart and funny. He really delivers his lectures in an interesting way. He's very helpful. Always offers help sessions, answers any questions- for online homework and take-home tests. Lets you bring cheat sheets to tests.. If you do the work, you will get an A!

Thompson OWNS the rock in the beginning of the game. Straight up BALLER. However, as the game progresses he starts to stumble. He makes bad passes and stops listening to teammates while still putting them on his back. Game almost over, down by 1. He has the ball at the 3point line. You're under basket. He sees you and throws the rock at your head.

Absolutely awful. He is the worst professor I've had at the college. Very inconsistent with his lectures and often rambles about nonsense for the duration of the class. You will learn absolutely NOTHING about chemistry by attending his lecture, followed by extremely difficult tests. Worst decision of my life taking this class with him. AVOID AVOID

I don't know how he is still teaching at the college. His lectures do not help at all. Never ever ask him for help. He will literally get mad at you for bothering him. You have to teach yourself everything, because he just assumes you know everything.

If you prefer to be self taught, take this prof. His lecture is confusing and lots of people agree that it makes no sense. If you actually ignore the lecture and give yourself enough time for the problem sets, you will do well. This prof is EXTREMELY flexable so if you have an issue he won't hold it against you. previous tests/ solution sets posted

Terrible Professor. You must have much prior knowledge to do well in his class. He doesn't lecture about anything relevant to chemistry and makes absolutely no sense. Homework is ridiculously hard because he doesn't show you how to do the problems in the first place. DO NOT TAKE.

Prof. Thompson talks very fast in lecture, about things that may or may not be relevant. I went to every class but absorbed little. When I went in for help, he was not very personable. I ended up with a B because I taught myself the material from the book and because he is very generous with partial credit.
