Comment:
Regarding Hist 213 it's a class that's difficult for no reason. It's a 200 level class, not a Ph.D class. 300 Hist classes are easier. TAs grade harsh. No way to get a good grade. Very vague instructions/expectations. Avoid if you care about your GPA (assuming you're not perfect). He's very unhelpful if he even thinks his class isn't the world 4 U

Professor Studnicki-Gizbert is a great lecturer and manages to cover 1400 years of world history without it feeling overly rushed or fast-paced. Very friendly and helpful during office hours. Only downsides are that the readings can be dry, and he doesn't like giving As.

Daviken gives really good lectures, but his slides contain no info so you absolutely need to be at every class. His sense of humour is eccentric but funny, and he tells great anecdotes. However, he doesn't seem to communicate well with TAs, because they all seemed very unsure in our mandatory conferences.

One of the best profs I've had at McGill, definitely w/i the history department. The topic was "socio-ecological histories of the neotropics" which sounds so pretentious but he made it really accessible and relevant. Super friendly, really wants to help you learn, very collaborative and willing to work with us. Plus he pushed back deadlines twice.

One of the best profs I've ever had. He seems intimidating at first, but he's very accommodating and sympathetic to the undergrad experience. He cares about his lectures and it shows, but he's also a very cool guy to talk to candidly. Do the work, save your questions for after class, don't waste his time and you'll be fine.

He has "disorganized tangents" but it's because of how passionate he is about the subject. If you do the readings every week (which are super interesting), you see where he is going with his tangents and it really adds to the course. He adds his own personality to the course without making it biased information. Amazing class. Take it

Daviken's lectures are long, disorganized tangents. You aren't allowed to take laptop notes, and he assigns a ridiculous amount of reading every class, along with a 3 synopsis each worth 5%, 2 papers worth 20%, a midterm, and a final. Do yourself a favour and just don't take this class.

This class was one of the worst I have ever taken at McGill. He cancelled classes repeatedly because the weather was nice, etc. NO lectures, expected us to self-teach, kept giving this speech how we were in charge even though his syllabus made that impossible as we had no common base knowledge.

He is a great guy, puppy-like infectious enthusiasm when he likes the topic but we ended up cutting out a whole century because of lectures going too long. It was an ok class, lots of facts but not too intellectual challenging. I'd like to take a higher level course with him though.

He's very interesting. Get ready to read a lot for the conferences especially. The textbook doesn't need so much reading. The papers have to be very tight to get good grades. If you're ready to work hard, the class is very nice to have!

Great prof! You will work hard in his class but he is a great lecturer and a nice person too. You'll learn a lot if you are ready to commit. Highly recommended, although if you can I would take it pass/fail to not stress avec the grade and just enjoy.

Such a great prof, very interestng!! Yes a little disorganized but he is clearly passionate about the material, gave questions for the final beforehand which helps you weed through your notes. There is a lot of reading but the class is an overview class so he had a lot to cover!

His class was very interesting but his lectures a bit all over the place. I was very confused by the final exam but it turned out to be much easier than I expected. I definitely recommend a reading/note taking group as it's a lot of reading and a lot of details. I would take him again though, he's very nice and helpful.
