he was fine. Didn't love the way he graded and wasn't that clear on what was expected from students.

Professor Harreld turned out to be a great professor. He does read his lectures, but will stop and answer questions at length. Classes had a very laid back atmosphere, and felt more like a discussion based class than a lecture, which I liked. He's got a great dry sense of humor, and graded assignments fairly. Would definitely recommend him

This was a really bad experience. Prof Herrald wouldn't even answer his own TA's emails when she was trying to help! He is very disrespectful to students.

He is crazy tough on grading tests, but gives NO feedback. How are we supposed to learn if we have no idea what's going on?! He gives you a TINY description for the term paper, grades it like you're in graduate school, then is beyond rude when you ask for clarification.

Not sure why this guy is a professor. He was pretty unwilling to be helpful and was overly tough on people. What he expects on papers is a mystery. I actually liked the material for the course; I probably would have enjoyed the class with a different professor.

Dr. Harreld is the only bad professor I have ever had at BYU. He was not clear about anything, and was totally disorganized. But the worst part was that he acted like he didn't care at all, and was very put out when anyone asked for help. So disappointing.

I'm a history major and did NOT love this class.. Harreld is not overly demanding but I found his grading on our position papers to be impossible. We lost a LOT of points over tiny errors and had a really hard time figuring out what went into an "A" paper.

Prof. Harreld is a great prof. His class is a lecture-based discussion with class participation, so listen carefully! Papers are graded fairly, but only 7 assignments in entire class, so do well or it's easy to slip from an A to an A-. Class is interesting, and if you like history, book reading isn't super important (plus the book isn't that great)

He was very nice and helpful. The worst thing was writing group papers, but the tests weren't bad at all. The material isn't as interesting because it's ancient history, but he made it OK.

I would highly recommend taking a class from Prof. Harreld. He comes across as being intimidating at first, but then becomes more of a friend. Reading isn't really necessary, and papers are graded fairly. Classes are more of a discussion, not a lecture. He is very entertaining. I learned a ton in this class, and actually had fun.

I've noticed that the ratings for HIST201 are all really great, but HIST200 was so awful. I did not think he was approachable, he is super blunt, so you better have thick skin. His class is so boring. He can be funny, but I thought some of his humor could be cutting. I will avoid taking a class from him in the future.

Hard class. He's a nice guy, after you get past the scary first impressions. He's blount, so if you are sensitive, might want someone else because he will tell if he thinks your work is "crap." Has big vocabulary, really educated. Is available, but doesn't necessarily know how to teach beginners. But you will learn if you work really hard.

Professor Harreld does a great job taking a subject that seems as well-researched as European expansion and giving some interesting twists to the history. He's more than willing to give you an A if you work for it. Great guy, and a great class.

I love Dr. Harreld! I thought he was really interesting and great at conducting lectures. The TAs were really helpful and gave great reviews. If I had to take the class again, I would take it from Dr. Harreld.

Professor Harreld reads his lectures from his computer. He probably wrote them a decade ago. It's boring, but mostly it was too flowery for me. I didn't know what he was talking about a lot of the time, so it was easy to get bored. It is pretty easy to get a good grade though, cause he's willing to give feedback on rough drafts.

This professor really sucks!I do not know how BYU can let this kind of professor teach, who does not even have a clue what he is teaching. Just reads from his crappy long notes and feels like he is giving a presidential speech more than teaching. TA hardly has any clue, Harreld is not friendly by any means, he pretends he knows how to teach in rea

A really nice guy. He'll help you personally if you're brave enough to go to his office. His lectures can be a little boring at times, but he also shows random Monty Python clips. His TA's are sometimes clueless. The review sessions set you up for the tests well. Tests are pretty fair and you only have 3 a semester. 3 group papers; 1 personal paper
